15 Minute Somatic Yoga for Deep Calm and Grounding - Yoga Video

Welcome to this 15 minute somatic yoga sequence, filmed in the stillness of the Indian Himalayas, just above the village of Pulga, near Kasol in Himachal Pradesh. This slow, spacious practice is all about calming the nervous system, awakening embodied presence, and tuning in to the subtle language of your body through mindful yoga and intuitive movement. Though you may not see him much in the frame, my loyal companion Gora — a gentle local stray dog whose name means "White" in Haryanvi — was resting quietly nearby throughout the filming. His calm, grounded energy is a quiet thread running through the whole practice. This video was recorded at a peaceful mountainside yoga ashram, hosted by a warm-hearted family from Haryana, near Delhi. Their land, nestled in the forest and open to the sky, provides the perfect space to slow down and reconnect with your awareness of breath, awareness of body, and the deep beingness within. What is Somatic Yoga? Somatic yoga is a gentle, body-led approach to movement that prioritises feeling over form, and curiosity over perfection. Rather than pushing or striving, you’re invited to sense what’s right for your body in this moment, to let your body feel, and to stay present with the subtle shifts happening inside. It’s a beautiful practice for calming the nervous system, releasing physical and emotional tension, and returning to your natural rhythm of rest and ease. It invites you to soften into embodied yoga practice — where you’re not just doing poses, but inhabiting your body with awareness and compassion. This type of somatic yoga for the parasympathetic nervous system can gently support emotional regulation, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase your sense of wholeness, stillness, and safety within. What to Expect in This Practice This 15-minute flow offers a balanced sequence of seated, supine, and restorative postures, each infused with mindful yoga awareness and intuitive movement. Brahmanaka (Sufi Grinds) — circling the spine in gentle waves, awakening the hips and lower back Deer posture sequence — exploring internal and external hip rotation with curiosity, rather than force Wide-legged seated stretch — flowing from side to side, inviting space through the spine and hamstrings Stargazer pose — a soft, spiralling backbend to open the front body and create space in the heart and throat Knee drops in supine (gentle spinal twist) — rhythmic side-to-side movements, calming the belly and spine Bridge posture — slow and mindful lifting, building fluid strength and grounded openness Half Happy Baby — gentle hip release with deep awareness and relaxed breathing Each posture is guided with cues for awareness of breath, and invitations to explore the quality of movement rather than aiming for depth or shape. You’ll be reminded to ask yourself: How does that feel? Which areas are able to relax? Where do you notice softening? Why Practice Somatic Yoga? In today’s fast-paced world, our nervous systems are often overstimulated — caught in cycles of tension, overthinking, or anxiety. Somatic yoga helps us return to ourselves, gently and kindly. Through slow, fluid movements and inward attention, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system — the branch responsible for rest, digestion, and healing. This is yoga for reducing anxiety and stress, but more than that, it’s an invitation to inhabit yourself fully. With each gentle movement, you reconnect to the quiet intelligence of your body. You learn to listen again. To soften. To feel. To be. As you move through this embodied yoga practice, know there’s nothing to achieve. You are already whole. Let this be a time of remembering — that your body is wise, your breath is a friend, and you are allowed to rest. Even just 15 minutes of mindful yoga can completely shift your inner state — helping you feel more grounded, spacious, and calm.
