STEADY A STORM, Yoga for a Rajastic Mood - Yoga Video

WHAT IS A RAJASIC MOOD? Feeling hassled by storms around you? Are your emotions running high? Needing to find your inner calm and resilience to keep going? Remember emotions are energy in motion... they are mostly uncomfortable when not in motion - here is a chance to assist their motion! There is a trio of mental states we move through regularly. So often we flow through the 'ups and downs of life', our human experiences, and only sometimes are we steady in the centre. But we can reduce those peaks and troughs, in many ways. Nutrition, meditation, sleep, inner self-talk, and so many more. These all can positively affect our state of being, attempting to remain within the 'window of tolerance'. In yoga, it is decribed as the 3 GUNAS. There is Raja (or a Rajasic state of being). There is Tamas (or Tamasic). There is Sattva (or Sattvic). SATTVIC is the centre third. Peaceful, clear, balanced, mentally clear and focused. RAJASIC is the upper third of the three. When we witness feelings of anxiety, anger, frustration, stress, over-activity, juggling too many aspects the mind becomes frazzled, then our nervous system is said to be hyper-aroused. TAMASIC is the lower third of the three. We feel dull, lethargic, uninspired, low physical energy and motivation, mentally foggy, and reluctant to engage. Our nervous system is said to be hypo-aroused. It is normal to fluctuate to some degree, but when stuck in Raja or stuck in Tamas, we are disturbed and unbalanced affecting all systems of our being, physical, mental, psycological and emotional. There are many ways to self-regulate, and many options to address in one's lifestyle to re-align continuously towards Sattvic state. It starts with awareness of what is actually happening (clarity of truth), then investigate what might be needed (integrity with wisdom), and then nurture into a course correction (compassionately practice). Its a big topic. But for here and now, you have a yoga video to steady a storm, and put down an anchor, at least. Try it, even if its a challenge the first time, or even second time. You are only on the yoga mat. You can take the various options given that suit you today, and just have a little giggle with it. We all gain greater focus, strength and resilience every time we return to practice some more.
