Dinacharya is ones daily routine in ayurveda. Ritucharya is ones seasonal routine in ayurveda. Rituacharya is when you live in accordance with the seasons. Both dinacharya and ritucharya are easy ayurveda practices to promote healing and harmony in ones life. Dinacharya: The importance of dinacharya practice is that it sets your whole day up for success. It’s possibly the one and only thing you can count on. It creates a stronger feeling of stability and secure. And when we feel stable and secure we are better able to take on more flowing tasks and problems. Examples of Dinacharya: Wake up with or before the sunrise Elimination Tongue scrape Oil pull Neti pot Nasya oil Pranayama Meditation Asana -yoga Prayer Anjana - eye cleansing Abhyanga Dry brushing Warm water or tea Ritucharya: The importance of ritucharya is that it can be incorporated into one’s daily life to create a more harmonious flow of qualities. (Ie. in summer you should avoid spicy foods because there is already a spike of heat due to pitta season) Late winter / early spring = Kapha season Season of renewal and new life Digestive fire dampens and leads to allergies, illness and congestion. Avoid cold substances and mucous causing foods like daily Focus on steamed veggies, light foods, whole grains and dry granola Best time for detox Incorporate warm baths and warm herbs Avoid naps Summer = Pitta season Focus on consuming grounding, cool and sweet foods Avoid spicy foods, alcohol (sour) and excess salt Lighter and colder foods are more acceptable Take part in light activities like swimming or hiking Drink lots of water and cooling herbal tea like chamomile and peppermint Fall / early winter = Vata season Things are naturally getting drier and colder Keep the body moist through abhyanga and warming herbal tea Focus on sweet, sour and salty tastes Warm body oiled massages and self care practices Grounding yoga, prayer and alternate nostril breathing Hearty more filling breakfast and lunch Find your own Dinacharya and Ritucharya practice to promote a healthy-balanced life.
