Instructions

How can we remain aware of being during daily activities when the drama of experience pulls our attention away from the background of awareness?

Rupert says: ‘Once our attention is absorbed or lost in the drama of experience, our thoughts, feelings, perceptions, activities, relationships, the sights, sounds, tastes, etc., we overlook the background of being. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not present. It’s always there, just like the screen in a movie that hasn’t disappeared when you are watching a movie.

‘It’s just a very, very subtle shift of attention. It’s like taking a step back from the foreground of your experience – thoughts, images, feelings, and sensations – into your being. Don’t give yourself away completely to experience. You just remain in your being. It’s so easy – just like seeing the screen whilst watching a movie is easy, even when the image is colourful and demanding.’ ––
