hi i'm dr melissa west and welcome to living your yoga today we're going to answer the question what is a sand culp well it's an intention and you can create a short-term intention to guide your yoga practice or your day or you can create a longer-term intention to guide your week your month your year or you can even create one to guide your whole life back in 2011 i created what i still think is the most important yoga class i've created to date on saint kulp and i love that class and i'm going to link to it in my show notes it was an episode dedicated to the concept of saint help or intention in 2012 you're going to see a year to your theme here i created a lecture and accompanying meditations to help members form a meaningful sandcall to use as guiding philosophies in their lives and for that year then in 2013 on the membership site i created a whole series on san call with classes to help people set intentions for their yoga class for their day and then also longer term intentions and then i also took questions on the idea of saying help and it was like there was a video that had questions and questions it was kind of fun our teachers in our continuing education course also spent two whole weeks on this idea of intention and saying call in the continuing education course for teachers so as you can see saying culp and intention creating has been kind of an important guiding principle in my life and in our community in january of 2013 i created an intention for my year and it was with an open what was it with an open heart i received with joy and gratitude and this intention was established to help me create some balance with some perceived imbalance between giving and receiving in my life and kind of a general feeling of exhaustion at the end of 2012. it also brought into being to allow myself to receive your feedback not just the negative feedback that i do sometimes receive but also to allow myself to really take in so much of the beautiful positive heart centered gratitude that i receive more often on a daily basis so fast forward eight months and i have received more love joy and gratitude than i could ever imagine i've also been gifted beyond what i could have ever dreamed our community i'm gonna get choked out here of namaste yoga and the membership community have also greatly benefited from all that we have received as a community this year our open-hearted graduates have taken on leadership roles in our community site creating content namaste yoga has been translated into five languages now spanish italian finnish portuguese and russian and i'm now being taught sanskrit and that is only the tip of the iceberg so it feels like this sand cult has really come into full fruition in my life i have received with an open heart with joy and gratitude so much and so this week we released a brand new series into the membership site called an introduction to the bhagavad-gita it was co-created by open-hearted graduate molly crowley and i who are now team teaching yoga philosophy on the membership site and i'll link to her website in our show notes as well and although i've read the bhagavad gita many times researching and putting together this series transformed me in unimaginable ways although i wanted to keep my sand cult for a year there is a feeling of stretching and i'm growing outgrowing it and needing to move on to another sand culp in my life and so inspired by our series on the bhagavad gita i am shifting into a new long-term intention it is not as short and snappy as my other one but it holds deep personal and significant meaning to me and so my new intention is i establish ever-present awareness with the deepest truest core of the divinity of myself allowing the free flow of prana and vital energy in my body and mind i practice karma yog carefully guided by compassion doing all my work free from anxiety and worry abiding in a state of joy peace and contentment i am not the doer so this one feels like i have some growing to do i have to grow into this one so what about you what are your long-term senculps what are your long-term intentions what's the longest time you've been able to stay with an intention how do you know when it's time for you to move on from an intention so leave your comments below i look forward to hearing from you about your san culp's and long-term intentions namaste finding a great yoga class is becoming more costly and difficult now there's a better way to self-improvement in the privacy of your own home visit dr melissa west at melissawest.com and start getting free weekly online videos real yoga for real people
