Transcript

hey Nick Ortego here and do a little
book review dan millman the way of the peaceful warrior this is one of my guess
favorite practical books on the approach to life that some people call
spirituality or meditation or whatever you want to call it just how to how to
live life and be happy and at peace with what is and with what the universe and
just living a happy productive and useful life and some people call that
spirituality some people call it other stuff but this book tells a great story first-person story of a young man in of
a young man who finds a mentor kind of a teacher yoda-like figure who seems to
have mystical powers but really teaches him a lot of wisdom and wanted to take
home points from this book that I really like this book that this page that i
dog-eared I'm going to read it so the teacher is telling the student and this
just so stressful thoughts reflected conflict with reality stress happened
when the mind resists what is stressful thoughts reflect a conflict with reality
stress happens when the mind resists what is that's probably one of the most
simple truths that if I can if I can make peace with it stress is not what's
happening out there those are stressors and they were stressors because I
perceived them to be so my resistance to what is happening makes what is
happening a stressor if I offer up no resistance the stress response doesn't
happen within my body in my mind we have the stress response for a reason
and that reason is protect us if it is a situation where we have to run away or
fight for our lives if it's a life threatening situation than the stress
response in our bodies the heart rate being jacked up the fear response in the
mind is totally appropriate for our survival but if you have if I are you
anyone has the stress response at any time that is not life threatening then
it is totally an unskilful use of the stress response so for me the practice
is to notice when that's happening and do something to shift away to shift away
from the stress response for me that is shifting attention to my breathing and
meditating the more I sit on a mat and meditate and more I sit on a cushion and
meditate the better that gets a lot of times though running and long-distance
running is a form of meditation because basically it gets hard and I have to
make peace with the fact that it's hard and it's challenging and it's
uncomfortable and I just tuned into my breathing and just taking the next step
forward and the stress actually comes from my resisting what is when I fully
embrace and accept what is the stress of it dissolves and I overcome and that's
something that I've actually learned from distance running and not
necessarily sitting meditation or yoga so thank you for for listening i have i
do recommend this book it's a great story and what i found is that great
stories when when an author uses a great story to encapsulate a teaching point
it's so much more interesting and profound and effective so we have a
comment below if you got any benefit from this video also if you want to get
more content more stuff that's not available on the blog not available on
