Transcript

hi it's Patricia Berenson from the trauma healing center of London Ontario Canada I also wanted to talk with you just about how to care for your eyes and especially when we're transitioning to online therapy there's another thing that you can do from time to time just to support your eyes and that is to learn how to soften your gaze so it's similar to another exercise where I talked about the difference between grabbing an image or letting the image come into your eyes and this is really about learning how to soften our gaze as we're looking at something so I just invite you to take look around the room and find an object that you can look at again and as you're looking at the object I just invite you to soften your gaze soften how you're looking at that object so it's in a way it's like you're just maybe almost kind of I suppose it could seem like trance-like but you're you're just pulling your eyes back a little bit so that you're not focused quite so sharply but you're seeing things but just in a very soft way and then I just invite you to come out again and be more like you're focusing on on what it is that you're focusing so I think you can probably see in my eyes they're a little more precise a little more alive whereas before they looked a little if I you do that it's kind of like Spacey looking and then I'm gonna come back into connection with you so that's the difference we're just giving our eyes a rest so the soft gaze and we can practice that in wherever we are when you're watching TV when you're in session with a client to just bring that softer gaze in from time to time so that your eyes can have a bit of a break anyway thank you and I'll talk to you soon bye for now
