Tripod Headstand (Mukta Hasta Sirsasana A) is one of the unsupported headstands that conclude the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga yoga. Tripod Headstand is used repeatedly as a transition into and out of arm balances. Finding the strength and stability for this pose builds a calm and steady mind. Practicing headstands promotes balance, good posture and improves circulation. Rohini Manohar from Chennai yoga studio shows us How to do Tripod Headstand.

[Music] Namaste my name is Rini and today I'm going to show you how to come into a headstand so this is another variation of doing a headstand it's called the tripod headstand uh so this is without using too much of your forearms or the shoulders what you'll do is same thing like before measure open once you plant the hands down just drag them down so it's flat and shoulders are over your wrists now you want to bring the center of your head forming like a triangle so the center of your head is here and the two hands are down so you'll bend the elbows and bring the center of your head down it's important that the head is not in between the hands CU again shoulders get collapsed you'll hurt your neck same thing so center of the head down and roll the shoulders in remember what I told you about the shoulders keep it tightly tucked in and push through the Earth so a lot of work is through the hands then you'll curl the toes lift the knees off and again walk as close as you can and then you'll rest one knee onto the elbows and slowly if you can the other knee just hold it right here play with the balance of the body right here and then gently if you can one leg and slowly the other leg this is tripod headstand it's a little bit more challenging I find but it depends on you and your body what one or the other thing might be easier slowly drop back down Knees Down coming into child's pose always [Music]
