If your hip hurts, then this little group of muscles right here, your hip stabilizers, those are the muscles you want to strengthen. But nobody does it. Now, the reason why this is so important is if those muscles are turned off, it's going to cause your leg to internally rotate like this. When this happens you're putting more pressure on your hip capsule and your lower back than is necessary. What we really want is nice stability in the hips. Here's how to do it. Bring your feet close together and stand in front of a chair like this. Push your butt back. Shift your weight to your heels and have a soft bend to your knees. Place your fingertips on the chair for balance and support. See if you can shift your center of mass over one foot without leaning to the side like this. And then lift one leg. Now hold this position for anywhere between 30 seconds to 1 minute. And what you'll feel is the muscles right here on the outside of your hip start to fire like crazy. That's you turning those muscles back on and training them to stabilize your knee, your ankle, and your lower back all at the same
