hi welcome to my channel i'm elizabeth with wandering soul enterprises so if you clicked on this video you might be wondering what is a dosha or what are the doshas so this is just a pretty quick overview um so if you're familiar with my channel you know we talk a lot about the five elements earth air fire water and ether or space so in ayurveda those five elements are recognized as being present in our bodies or at least the characteristics of those five elements are present within our bodies and um they group the elements into three different groups which are called the doshas so there's kapha dosha which is made up of earth and water there's pita dosha made up of fire and vata dosha made up of air and space or ether um and there's lots of great websites out there i know the chopra center has one there's probably others banyan botanicals is a good one too where you can take a dosha quiz so google dosha quiz i'm sure you'll find a good one and you can um answer all these questions to figure out what your dosha is for your body and most people are usually dominated by one or maybe two doshas um i'm a vata pita mix but then again sometimes i my imbalances are kappa related so we all have all three of these doshas within us and it's like a juggling act they one takes over more than the other sometimes and so there's a need to balance out the doshas um another thing is that each of the seasons is associated with one or two of the doshas um with the characteristics associated with that dosha so with vata being associated with air in space it's also associated with dryness lightness um most people with the vata constitution or vata dosha are really thin and maybe even frail would be like an extreme i guess um usually dry skin and sometimes a little spacey like if you're feeling a little light-headed or air-headed i guess would be a symptom of vata imbalance um with most of the doshas it seems like when we have an imbalance we have too much of that dosha so with pita um it's it's the fire element so it's about heat um anger so if you're really angry you might have a little bit too much pita going on um another thing with pita is that a lot of people who are dominated by pita are very competitive uh so a lot of the yogis who are all about the asana the power flow a lot of times they're pizza they need to tone it down a little bit um what else what's it gonna say oh with pizza it's also usually like a medium sort of a muscular body type um the doshas cover your body type your digestive health your hair and skin tone things like that so um not your skin tone but like the dryness or um oiliness of your skin in here um with uh the kapha dosha that's water and earth so uh kapha dosha people are usually uh really grounded really kind and benevolent and sweet um they also have a tendency to kind of move slowly and they like to hibernate you know it's sort of that hibernation type of of dosha and because of the earth and the groundedness of it and so sometimes with coffee it can feel a little bit heavy or sluggish and maybe not wanting to crawl out of bed on a cold winter's morning that kind of thing so that's a symptom of kapha and balance so that's just sort of the overview of the three doshas i hope that gives you a little bit of an inform a little bit of information to clarify why i'm doing all these dosha balancing yoga sequences i'm going to be doing one as the seasons change so tonight it's winter it's december although it's texas so um you know we can go through all the doshas in one day really easily here throughout most of the year that's another thing to keep in mind but that's a whole other story but i'm going to be doing a kapha balancing uh well it's kapha and vata balancing dosha uh sequence here in a moment so uh stay tuned for that and thanks for tuning in and i hope to see you again thanks
