What' my dosha? In this Ayurveda for beginners series, I explain the doshas and an introduction to Ayurveda (sister science to ...
hey everybody this is kimber from moksha yoga and wellness here to talk to you about kapha dosha if you've missed the first two videos we've also talked about vata and pitta doshas so check those out but i'll still give you a quick intro about what the doshas are so we're all on the same page there are three main energy types called the doshas and all of these energies make up all of us so you can imagine that each of us is born with three buckets you have lots of bucket a pizza bucket and a cup of bucket and all all of us have all three of these just at varying amounts so your particular constitution is how full these different buckets are no one is better or worse than any of the others but that's why ayurveda is so great is it's a totally individualized medicine system because you can really seek to balance based on what's going on in your body which is totally different than anyone else's our kapha dosha the third bucket that we're going to talk about is the dosha that's associated with the elements of earth and water so physically your kaphas are just your big bone folks and don't confuse this with being overweight because that's not the same but just the folks that are big and tall that are broad shoulders that just have some meat to them you know this would be really opposite from our vata folks the tall skinny string beans you can do that kind of as a spectrum so cuff of folks also can have really big dark eyes really lush hair maybe oily skin just luscious everything is the kapha person they have so much of that water element so kapha's in the mind are incredibly loyal incredibly good at building community with this water element they're just kind of sticky they can just bring people together really well they have really great endurance both physically and mentally they just have this staying power because they're so grounded in their bodies and who they are so this can be really beneficial these folks that don't tire out easily that are always going to be there for you you can always count on really really great friends and then that physical endurance can serve kaphas very well too so out of balance if you have too much earth or water this can happen especially in the springtime and sometimes late winter here in north carolina if we have a wet winter it feels like it has more of this puffer heavy watery earthen quality but too much of a good thing in the body can mean mucus and congestion and things being slow and stagnated so they can be people that have trouble with their sinuses a lot they always seem to have sinus infections maybe their digestion is really slow and they're not necessarily regular with their bowel movements can be another big indicator really really oily in their skin or in their hair as well and then out of balance in the mind too much of this cohesive congealing quality can lead to maybe some laziness or in some cases even depression just too much of that heavy downwardness they can be maybe hard to motivate they're not necessarily good with change they can be sometimes possessive of their emotions or the things they own they just want to hoard things around them potentially that's all if we have too much of this downward watery rooted quality so in our evada if we want to balance with the opposite we want light and bright that's what's going to help out our puff of folks especially in the springtime for most of us when we get allergies and the snot and we're trying to come out of winter and trying to emerge and need more energy that's when a lot of us experience a lot of kapha so if we want light and bright kapha people love sweets and baked goods and that's about the worst thing that you could do for a cup of person you're thinking juices and smoothies and salads and all these things that are just light and full of green stuff full of prana as we would say in yoga so you don't want anything heavy red meat really heavy cream sauces it's just going to be way too much for a kapha person and then light and bright and the rest of their life lots of movement lots of exercise in any way shape or form especially first thing in the morning is going to be really helpful for a cup of person just to set their day up with a little bit more energy making sure that they're getting movement throughout the day they're not getting stagnant that they're not getting stale making sure that they're getting lots of sunlight can also be helpful lots of positive interactions in their relationships as well so they feel fulfilled that way and don't feel like they have to be fulfilled through food so kapha people we love them we needed we need them we need that grounded friend that just strong always there person in our lives is so helpful but if that bucket gets too high and starts to overflow they start going out of balance we're looking at mucus heaviness sluggishness in the body and in the mind that's when we know we need to go back to this light and bright balance with the opposite kind of bring us back to center on that one so hope that taught you a little bit about the kuffa dosha and all three of our buckets that we have and if you want to learn more check out our full introduction to ayurveda workshop where we'll go through a whole dosha quiz and you'll see what your own unique constitution is based on how full all of your buckets are
