Pranayama is about expanding the dimension of life force energy. In Sanskrit, “prana” means life energy and “Ayama” means to expand or to regulate.

namaste everyone i am sandeep from raj yoga secrets today i will tell you about pranayama what is pranayama when is the best time to practice it where to practice it and what are the benefits of practicing pranayama first of all what is pranayama pranayama is a sanskrit word and it is consists of two words prana and i am prana means a vital energy or life force energy so this life force energy is fundamental to our existence so this is the energy that keep us alive and the prana flow in our body in channels it is called nadis in yoga so this prana is flowing in our body and keeping us alive and this prana governs a various aspect of our existence our physiological system our mental system and our spiritual being ayama means to expand or to extend or to regulate so pranayama means expanding the dimension of the prana okay to expand or extend the dimension of this life force energy in our body next question is how to expand the dimension of the prana says patanjali mentioned in his yoga sutras and the yoga sutra about pranayama is as follows means incoming flow of the breath or inhalation or swash means outgoing flow of the breath or exhalation and gather is like a movement or regulation so pranayama is regulating inhalation exhalation with retention so this is the classical definition of pranayama according to patanjali yogsut so by regulating the breath by manipulating the breath we change the pattern of our breath we become more aware of our breath and we keep it synchronized with our body with our mind because breath is directly connected to our mind so if breath fluctuates it fluctuates the mind for example when we are angry our breath go faster when we are in peaceful state or we reading book for example our breath is very slow so breath reflects the mind so as for yogic system if we can maintain the synchronization of the breath with our body we can change the way we live now when to practice pranayama the best time for practicing pranayama is early morning or evening time but make sure that you practice it with empty stomach or if you having a light meals so you can practice after two hours of your meal where to practice pranayama so this is also very important part of your practice like choosing a right place for practicing your pranayama so as pranayama is depend on the vital force or vital energy so it is very important to choose the place where the prana is pure okay so it could be your house it could be outside in nature by the riverside or nature or in jungle but make sure that it is very clean and nice environment because if the place is polluted then you are inhaling the low level of prana okay or polluted prana so it is very important to choose a very nice place for your practice so choose a clean environment okay now we discuss the benefits of pranayama like what are the benefits of pranayama practice pranayama practice has enormous benefit first of all it improves the wavy breath it makes our breath steady once our breath becomes steady it reflects in our mind so our mind becomes steady so once mind is steady it become more calmer more peaceful and it reduces our stress level anxiety pranayama also helpful in our physiology it changes our entire physiological behavior it controls some of its function like blood pressure nervous systems once our blood pressure or nervous system in control it give us very relaxing environment inside our body which keep us calm and quiet there are different types of pranayama depends on the the way we breath and how we regulate and manipulate our breath so there are different types of pranayama according to hatha yoga we have covered these different types of pranayama in our videos so i recommend you to please check out our other videos on pranayama practice watch it and practice pranayama stay healthy now namaste the nevada
