ah hints ah the Sanskrit word non-violence coming from the first of the Yama's the moral and ethical principles from Patanjali yoga sutras that inform yoga practitioners how to really live their lives from the inside out himsa the sun's good word for violence when it has the a in front of it ahimsa is usually translated and means non-violence or the opposite of violence so we can think about that starting from the inside out beginning first and foremost with your thoughts think and practice non-violence thoughts thinking positive thoughts about yourself not hating yourself forgiving yourself and the same in the world so we noticed your judgments your negative commentary about the things around you and the people around you begin our himsa by changing that dialogue to forgiveness to acceptance even to possibly love then take it a step further and look at your deeds and your actions including what you say what you do what you eat and how you show up and live in the world how you treat other human beings how you treat other beings of all species think about that in the heart and act with a heart of ahimsa this is how you take your yoga practice off of the mat into the world that you can be a force of non-violence a positive force of peace of kindness in every moments of your life you won't succeed we're not perfect there'll be moments where you intentionally or unintentionally engage in acts of violence towards yourself like self-harm or negative self-talk or other times when you may do the same thing towards the world what can you do life like your yoga practice is well it's a practice so you continually get back up learn your lesson and strive to do better just a little bit better next time then we can apply that teaching of our hem saw from the inside out starting with thoughts manifesting in actions deeds and make our world a better more peaceful less violent and more loving place
