welcome back welcome to day three of your 14 day ayurveda challenge so hopefully you took something from yesterday and started to just Infuse it into your life something that you're going to do as part of your dinner charya and if you haven't already done it yet try to do it today and because today we're talking about something called richutarya uh just like dinacharya it has to do with rhythm but Richard charias talks about the seasons and depending on where you live in the world you you may see a shift in Seasons right you may see spring summer fall winter maybe in some places or wherever you're at in the world you might see a little bit more of a steady steady steady summer quality uh maybe it's mostly cold where you're at but ayurveda actually breaks this down into uh three seasons which corresponds with something called the doshas which is what we're getting into a little bit later in a few more days but just to talk about the seasons and uh and Richard charya it's your seasonal rhythm and the wisdom in this the science in this is that if I am really fired up I'ma fight let's let's use me as an example let's say I'm just a fired up person uh I get really angry when people criticize me I am always needing to do something and see the results of it I naturally have really like red skin maybe I've got light hair red hair uh maybe I also really enjoy spicy food and after I eat spicy food or very caffeinated drinks uh I tend to get a little bit sharp at work and people stay away from me when they know that I've had like my afternoon coffee or they see me eating something spicy uh if I'm that type of person and I go outside In The Heat Of Summer during the time of day where the heat is the strongest so midday and I go and I take a high intensity boot camp class in the park in the hot sunshine once I'm done with that uh I'm gonna probably be burnt out like literally I'm a heated person eating heated food drinking drinks that actually fire me up right caffeine isn't always uh necessarily like something that that's hot to the like spicy or even hot to the touch can be cold to the touch but what it does to me inside of my body is it gets me fired up uh I'm gonna get depleted I'm gonna get incredibly burned out and then what usually happens and this has happened to me what's usually what happens to a lot of people is that once they start to feel that crash uh they might go for another caffeinated drink and then perk back up again and then by the time night time comes around it might be either difficult for that person to sleep for me to sleep or it might be where I'm at a point where I'm I just crash and I get nothing done that is not living life in Balance I'm out of balance if I'm doing that and ayurveda is it teaches us to to try to find balance we need to come back to balance so to come back to balance in the summer let's use the summer for example I'm a heated person I'm hot I'm angry sometimes uh I'm not going to go do that boot camp class that is in the middle of the day heat and sweat a ton and then go have a coffee ayurveda teaches me that that's not something that I'm going to do uh because it's summer because it's hot I might instead go and take a more I might go take a walk through the park for my exercise stay under the shade I might go to a restorative or yin yoga class or even a slow Flow Yoga class I'm going to avoid Hot Yoga during this time so that's one thing about Richard charia that we we notice what season we're in if it's hot if it's cold if it's dry and uh we we try to bring in qualities that are the opposite of that so if I see that again if it's hot I'm going to try to do things that cool me down even better if I'm really hot over the summer I might go over a swim getting in the water at midday might be really magical and really balancing for me and then when I get home I won't crash on the other end of this uh this is more so physical stuff that you can do but you can also tap into the food that you're eating and this is a big one so nourishing ourselves with food which is what nature gives us this is it's all around us it's it's at our fingertips it works to nourish us and ayurveda also teaches that whatever we take in through our senses is either medicine or poison if I'm eating that hot food and spicy hot food in the middle of the summer day it might work as something that's like poisonous to me it won't make me sick or maybe it will I might get some kind of like stomach thing going on from that but I also might uh like be Snappy and mean and that's that's not medicine for me that's not medicine for anybody so food is uh something that we want to eat when it's in season so this can be I'm not going to tell you what's in season now because you might be watching this video at uh a totally different time than the time that I'm in or you might be redoing this challenge at another point in the seasons but the best way to figure out what food is in season for for yourself or where you're at in the world is one you can Google it you can go online and look up your location and get a list of fruits and vegetables that are in season and then when you go to your supermarket took out those Foods get those foods and those will naturally help bring you back to balance another thing to do is if you live in a place where you have access to a farmer's market or a CSA where you get a food share or Farm share weekly or whatever it may be get that sign up for that and then the fruits and vegetables that you get from that farm share will be the fruits and vegetables that you eat and that's just a super easy way to really nourish yourself another thing that you can do if you live in a little bit more of like a very rural area is go to your local farm and take a look at what's actually available at the farm store you might see certain fruits at one time of the year like during the summer and then when it's winter you might see a totally different array of fruits or vegetables eat whatever you see there and then you could even take that into uh consideration when you go to the supermarket and shop for you or your family so Richard charia with this one this practice we're we'll do the same thing that we did yesterday I'll ask you I'm asking you to go get either a pen and paper can use your cell phone you can type on your computer but pick something that you're going to do that you'll try to do every day at least 70 percent of the time 70 of the week and either there's two options that you'll pick you'll either commit to having a meal or fruit or at least one vegetable that's in season every day that's that can be a really easy one that's that's one of my favorite ones and that's something you could even share with your family right you could share with friends like I just got these local apples here share these with me uh and it's a really beautiful experience to share that with somebody that's one practice that you can do so pick something local and eat it every day incorporate it into your diet every day the other practice that you can do is to notice what season you're in and try to pick an activity that will nourish you so some options are outside right now wherever you're at wherever it may be if it's cold outside maybe every day you do something that's a little more warming so an activity that's a bit warming maybe you go for a brisk walk or hike a little bit more of an intense hike something that'll break a sweat it doesn't have to be like cardio kickboxing boot camp does not have to be hot yoga uh you might even if you like saunas steam rooms you might go sit in one of those if you can do that every day so that's if it's cold outside uh if it is dry outside so if you go outside and you just notice like your skin dries up or uh you're you just feel like when you look around or you know when you look around it looks like the trees are really crackly uh that there's there's crunchy leaves on the ground if it's dry try to incorporate something into your day that's grounding so that might be that maybe you you sit every day for a minute maybe five and just watch your breathing maybe you have a yoga practice that you can do every day that could be three poses maybe you just sit in in this the seat that like the one I'm in right now and just breathe for a few breaths something that's grounding to you that could be a walk outside walking around and looking around in nature perfect lastly if it's hot outside you incorporate you you will want to incorporate cooling practices so that might be again it might be uh just sitting and and breathing for a few moments literally trying to cool yourself down another practice could be getting into a bathtub or a pool or an ocean if you can do that every day do that every day uh if you can't get like fully immersed your body in the water you might just put your feet in get your feet in the water every day if you're really feeling like you're overheated if it's also hot outside you can go for a walk in nature notice that trend for whatever the environment might be outside walks in nature or grounding or just so grounding no matter no matter where you're at no matter what the climate is uh so that's kind of the go-to in ayurveda you could always take a walk in nature that could mean you're walking on a city street that's a little quieter too you don't have to get yourself into a mountain or onto a mountain so pick pick something that you're going to do every day that is balancing for the season that you're in again the first option there's two of these you can either pick a food and but food that's in season try to have that every day or a something physically that you're doing with your body that's balancing for you for this season so again if it's cold out do something that's warm walk a little quicker uh bundle up wear a hat if it's dry outside something that's grounding you can also go for a walk and and breathe deeper in nature if it is hot outside something that's cooling maybe something water maybe it's also that walk but just walking around and breathing deeply walking slow slower so pick that food or pick that activity write it down right now when you write when we write things down we're making a promise to ourselves right it's a little bit deeper than just thinking them so write that down now if you haven't already and start that today or tomorrow and just because it is day three that doesn't mean that what you've already started yesterday you're not putting into today right uh you're hopefully incorporating your Dina charrier practice from day two and now you'll incorporate your original practice uh here at day three or tomorrow thanks so much and I will see you tomorrow for day four
