hi this is Joe for love yo connect me and today I'm here with yo handling back yeah and lovely Swedish guy he's an Ayurvedic consultant he's also an authorized Ashtanga teacher by a man who Joyce been practicing for a long time and also studying Ayurveda for a long time so we're going to use this opportunity to talk to him about some of the things that might influence us in everyday life but also hopefully towards the astanga practice or yoga practice as well in general so the first thing I wanted to ask you was that because I I travel a lot for my work during workshops interviews and that sort of thing and also a lot of people nowadays and have a lot for work commute and that sort of thing is there anything from an Ayurvedic perspective that we can do to limit the impact of all that traveling yeah there there's a few things that you can have in mind while traveling they're traveling by air especially it's literally having you in the air element okay so I usually when I talk about eyewear I try to not talk as much from a dosage perspective as the from the perspective all the elements right because everything consists of five elements you know and we have ether which is the most subtle element we have air we have fire we have water and we have earth so all these different doshas Vata Pitta kapha consists of two of each of those yeah yeah so when we are traveling we are moving which is a wind or air characteristic in itself right and if we are flying then we are actually up in the air elements we are moving which is sort of creating an air imbalance and we are actually in the air which is kind of increasing it even further okay right so what is happening is that we have an increase of varta in our bodies so that would go both for you even though you're not Vata dosha in your generally say I'm roughly Pitta kapha something like that yeah yeah but still you would be affected by this but not maybe as much as someone who would be a pure would have a pure dominance because they have that more air quality right so they would be more sensitive to it but you will also feel the effect to some extent right so we are getting drier because air the element of air has a drying quality so we will get drier when we are traveling and you really feel that dehydration guy yeah you really do and it's also water people have more would you say sensitive in a bit maybe brittle bodies so we will also start feeling a bit weakness in your body when you're traveling okay right so you feel a bit tired a bit weary and a bit drier yeah yes so this is basically what we need to compensate and it's quite common that if you've been on a journey you would get sick afterwards yeah this is really common you know it's also that bacteria spreads easily other terrible people you're travelling right right but you can sort of prevent this if you're not lowering your immune system yeah because this is what's happening when you're getting a bit drier and weaker yeah the immune system will also go down and vulnerable exactly yeah so what would we need to apply them to sort of yep even this out yeah so we have ether which is really subtly element and we have air which is also dry cool sub dynamic flexible and all those kind of stuff yeah so we would basically need to apply all the other elements to even this out okay so we then have fire we have water and we have earth right so we need some structure we need some moisture and we need some heat going on to sort of even this out and the structure which one did that relate to earth yeah okay yes we need some kind of foundation so a good way for foundation would be to get some good fats when we are eating okay so this could be anything from avocado to just to get some butter or ghee or oil something yeah a bit fat in our food to help get us a bit more grounded or earth you know okay so that could be one thing to get that thing going we could also try to find some calm spot in the what you say there in our travel yeah yeah in our travel thing wherever we are plane or bus or a train station or wherever so before or after preferably both find a few minutes to sit still and kind of ground yourself okay maybe meditate for 5 to 10 minutes right fisa find some calm spot where you can yeah just to ground yourself okay yeah and then we would need to eat add some moisture and spices as well so I suggest everyone that's going for travel to bring some water tea with them okay yeah so you could buy these from any probably yoga center these days I already course online or whatever yeah okay so there are a few different mixtures but they are basically doing the same thing okay so any kind of varta tu would do so rather than having a coffee for instance or some alcohol on the plane bring your own tea and just ask for some hot water and try to drink it during the flight as much as possible really and when it comes to the food on that side of things yeah better to eat or not eat because I've heard it may be good to fast maybe when you're traveling it could be yeah so it would depend on the person a bit right now like for a pizza person would probably get a bit cranky I couldn't eat yeah so for a car person I would probably even recommend too fast yeah you could have some some soup or broth or drinking teas and stuff like that yeah and actually even though crisps are hard to digest yeah a little bit of crisps could actually be good in this situation because the salt would also bind moisture in your body okay yeah and then the Vata they probably need to eat today yeah they need to eat button shouldn't try to mix too many different textures while they're eating so probably not go for both a salad and whatever it would be a lentil rice thingy but broadly go for yes two lentils and rice and skip the salad okay because it's a bit hard to mix and the salad is also crisp you know this consists of air in a way and it's cold okay yeah which we are trying to avoid indeed yes because we we talked about the earth the grounding and the water elements and so the fire we gotta say that's through the spices so that's why I recommend the tea so that's in the tea yeah yeah and you don't want too much spices because too much heat will also dry you out you know yes like heat has a drying effect as well so you want to be mildly stimulating your body to gain the to get the blood circulation going great yeah so more aiming for stuff like you know ginger cinnamon cardamom we have jeera what's that's in English cumin cumin yeah stuff like that so not too much like hot chilies whole lot of garlic and stuff like that because it can actually also dry you out in the end okay so mildly stimulating spices drink a lot of warm water try to eat simple food not mix different textures and different cooked and uncooked foods and stuff like that and that will that also I mean obviously with your commuting you don't get the jetlag initial fly to another country but when you're doing the long travels and you've got that yes you would jet pack will also help you with the jet pack you know I think it will have to kind of catch you up a bit but here I think meditation is more important I can sort of collect yourself gathers yourself when you're arriving so you're okay mind body and soul can sort of realign because it's like for me at least I can almost feel like my my body is here but my mind hasn't really arrived yet so I have to sit down and wait for it you know yeah exactly yeah yeah so I think I think that's good good all right yes so then when it comes to practicing's we've arrived in our destination hopefully you know we've got all our traveling yeah and we're we're practicing yeah and let's stick with the stang of the moment because we're both fish tank of the auditioners how does ru Vader fit next to the Stenger practice doesn't have a set sequence yeah what does it was his view on that sort of a or even such a strong practice so everything doesn't have to be strong depends on how you practice it but generally speaking he's really yeah they're attracted to it a little bit sort of going for it shall we say yeah yeah yeah well I actually asked him and you my teacher about yes and according to Manju ashtanga yoga does balance all three doshas okay right and I and I have been thinking about this myself and trying to analyze all the postures from my point of view and I think we have a fair amount of all we need really you know we have calming postures we have posters that create energy and we have posters that cools us down and so on right we will go more into detail about this in the course I love your gana to me breathes well yeah but so I think we have a fair amount of all what you need really but then again we tend to be a bit a bit lazy we kind of go into our usual pattern so yes ashtanga yoga can balance all three doshas okay but does it usually do maybe not I think yeah is that the fault of the way the practitioner approaches it rather than the practices so exactly so I think the practice is perfectly fine it's how we approach it as he said you know because we try to avoid what what we need and we try to do what we're good at but that's not always what we need exactly yeah yeah so it can be anything from a posture to how many breaths we take or using the Drishti properly properly you know or whatever we try to sort of skip through the things that are a bit uncomfortable for us yeah and maybe do what we are good at a little bit more so this would probably create even more of an imbalance yes we playing into our strengths and avoiding our weak yes so you would need to have some knowledge of Ayurveda and be able to either view yourself really objectively or have a teacher that has that knowledge that can sort of check back on you and help you to focus on the right parts yeah because Peters for instance they like to perform a lot you know they are reading to the physical practice yeah and they are probably the ones that like this read the rigid version which tangoroger with all those gatekeepers and stuff yeah then they will have goals to to work - yeah obstacles to overcome yeah yeah yes yeah they really enjoy this what would balance a pistol on the other hand would be to not be so gold orientated you know and just enjoy the practice for what it is yes that makes it yeah and also what's balancing kata is basically all inversions and like the finishing postures from my experience most people do to a few breaths in the finishing business yet they can't even skip them going by my own experience yeah if there's a if there's a time limit and it's like okay I've only got like an hour and a half today or something and I'm getting here and it's always a finishing sequence I drop off and just yeah right so instead of going to just navasana and maybe do the finishing posters you would do everything in this exactly yeah yeah that's quite common yeah so for a pit especially you would need to focus on the on the finishing posters maybe stay 10 15 20 25 breaths in each yeah to kind of negate that kind of what do you call it really energetic yeah out of there exactly of the practice yeah yeah the carpus on the other hand would probably do the other way around yeah maybe they will collapse into the postures where they can relax and because Karpis or the can be stiff but usually they are quite soft and you know bendy yeah yeah so they like to go through their standing postures as quick as possible because then in the sitting postures they can kind of just relax forward and not do so much yeah you could probably see them skipping a lot of vinyasa and you know maybe it stay longer in shavasana and that's right exactly and they would probably also arrived to practice half an hour earlier so he has to lay on the Mayo yeah yeah and the VAT the persons would need to work on their focus mainly I think so the count is really important for me I don't advise everyone to count the practice but for Bertha's especially with a drifting mind it's what really sort of binds them to into the practice and keeps them focused so both having drifters Krishna's yeah and doing the count internally I think really really helps about of yeah butter to keep in the practice because otherwise you can feel them see them looking around and yeah these sort of work rapidly for a few hours on us and then they would lose pace and start looking around and then maybe they got another what do you call it little person burst of energy do a few more and then you will see them lose focus again you know so so for them it's really about getting the mental focus I think structure yeah and then they also need to balance the nervous system and stuff like that but we'll talk more about that in the course exactly yeah so you might you know might recognize some of these things and yourselves if you're watching this and so try and sort of self analyze a little bit and play with those sorts of things and see what it does to you if you yeah yeah yeah so on the other side of things it seems to me from from an outside perspective slightly that there's sometimes an emphasis on problem solving something that yeah okay I have this imbalance I need to change it and I need to do this to bring myself here and and I don't often hear a lot of talk about making the most of the dosha you have yeah so like if I'm for instance bitter kefir hmm how can i how can I practice in a way or live my life in a way that makes the most of having that particular notion because I understand that we can't really change it dramatically we can play with it but if this where I am I'm gonna have it for the rest of my yeah yeah sure yeah you have it for the rest of your life you have a few years would you say up to 25 you're a bit more affected by kapha 25 to 50 or a bit more affected by pizza and from 50 upwards you're a bit more affected Alberta but you're still pretty much the same all the way all the way through and I think this maybe it's a bit of the Western culture as well that we used to go into sort of a guilt and shame road you know also we try to look at what bad all the time and yeah I need to stop doing this I'm so bad for I'm doing that and yes whipping yourself on the back constantly and if there's anything that will make us sick really and be negative to our head of this it is guilt and shame of color so I'm not too much into that but rather trying to see the positive in everything and all these three doshas are fantastic in their own ways you know I mean carpets they are really loving caring and they have good strong energy and they can like go on forever you know so I think it's a really beautiful dosha and PETA as well with their intelligence and sense of humor and they are really passionate about things they are usually good leaders and make to make people following and you know that sort of stuff and what was a really creative dynamic talkative expressive people so I think it's just a they've all got good quality yeah and it's just beautiful yeah everything is beautiful really you know so yeah don't try to look at it from I shouldn't do I shouldn't do I must do this I must do this yeah but what do I enjoy to do and maybe you should maybe eat a little more of this but it's not so much that I shouldn't eat this yeah but rather yeah maybe I should have a few more soups that would be nice or maybe I should eat a bit more of salad I would love to explore that for myself you know or yeah try to find the positive you know and creative wise or work wise that sort of thing obviously you'll be drawn towards certain fields depending on your social media in the internal Constitution yeah and there's a lot of people that are in work that they really don't like yeah and obviously we have to pay the bills and we have yeah so how important is it I mean this is a silly question but how important is it for us to have a work or exercise practices on the other side that are actually in tune with our dosha in tune with our internal workings I I think for us to be happy you know it's important you know but then as you say we have different social situations economic situations we cannot just do what we love all the time we have certain obligations and we need to pay the bills you know and we we might have children to feed and whatever but then at least try to find some time during the day or over a week where you can really go into what you love to do and for most of us that would be to be creative or expressive in some way you know so just find some time for that yeah and for a Peter it would be probably to do some physical training maybe or stuff like that where they can really challenge themselves yeah right sorry bye only time for that exactly yeah and for Karpis it's a lot about loving and caring so that could be taking care of people but it could also be enjoying cooking some food baking you know or being out in the garden so just try to find some time for that yeah yeah and part of that embracing I'm just thinking there because when I remember when I was first told I was bitter kapha kind of gonna be Catherine me because I was associating it with sort of large sluggish people and and then when I then we were talking and it was filming the the course with you it's like oh my god there's so many good qualities it's like they got nice hair they got eyes a good teeth my skin the big mess actually maybe that's not so bad I know and cowboys also the ones generally that lived the longest if they are in violence okay copper's tend to gain a bit more weight than they should we have a negative effect on health yeah but a cafe imbalance usually the longest lives not the prefer if that's what you've got yeah or embrace your bottle that's what are you yeah so just be happy with what you have because it's all yeah brilliant thanks so much and then we're gonna catch up with you again and film a few more so look out for those and look out for the course I've found with your head it should be on the love yoke Anatomy website yeah of course that might Thanks
