good morning patreons good morning everybody um today is june 21 and it's winter solstice for us in south africa and summer solstice for you guys in the northern hemisphere very auspicious day and kind of the coming together of this energies of winter and summer and then it's also international yoga day so um today's we continue with the eight-fold path of yoga or the eight limbs of yoga or ashtanga yoga so the first two we did were the yamas and the niyamas so the tens do's and don'ts the five jews and the five domes now we come to asana which basically means a steady comfortable position or seated position and or posture so every single yoga pose has the word asana at the end of it downward facing dog so the whole practice of yoga is to bring you to a steady seated position for meditation the whole of the eightfold path of yoga is to bring you to the steady end part of yoga which is diyan and concentration and meditation and then ultimate absorption and bliss today i'm joining the two i'm joining asana and pranayama because i just figured the two go really well together and it's what most of us kind of know as a yoga practice the others are really important and i like to bring them into every one of our practices but these are the two kind of like um when people think of yoga they think of breathing and the postures so and being international yoga day they celebrated it yesterday in india it's kind of like the essence of what yoga is pranayama prana life force energy chi divine energy yama to become more in control of it to stretch it to be aware of it so we're going to do asana which we do in every single class and pranayama which we do in every single class but we're going to bring more awareness so bring your hands in to create your hearts close your eyes and take some lovely long slow deep breaths there you go that's prana what is that essence that comes in on the wings of your breath some people call it the golden light others call it the silver thread but whatever it is as you continue to breathe realize that without it you do not exist so it's that invisible force beyond oxygen that energy the divine essence of you the prana that gives you life and we're going to through this class do the breath which is constricting the back of your throat ever so gently and drawing the egg you
