Transcript

welcome to healthy ayurveda.com i'm dr mike daliwal vedic sage today we'll continue with this time focusing on grishma or that which most closely resembles late spring or early summer in a previous video we've discussed two broad categories adana kala and visaga kala aldena kala reflects the phase of the year which the sun appears to be traveling north and a period explained as extracting strength or that which weakens the individual this is because the days become longer providing more solar energy and that which expresses hot sharp and dry qualities therefore is dehydrating and tends to make the body more weak or less energetic essentially during this season kapha decreases day by day and vonta gradually increases during the summer season it's best to avoid that which increases both vata and pitadosha for example we should avoid food which is sour salty and pungent pungent taste increases both vata and pitta dosha and sour salty and pungent taste increases pitta dosha also during summer season one should avoid excess physical exercise and overexposure to direct sunlight as this will further increase and aggravate both vata and pitta dosha instead we should consume foods which are sweet light and unctuous food should have a cold potency as opposed to being heating and food should be hydrating or that which is liquid in nature it's important to note the dietary and lifestyle recommendations change from season to season for example during spring it was advised to consume food which was light and dry with bitter pungent and astringent taste versus having food which is light and unctuous and food having sweet taste as this helps to pacify both vata and pitadosha an example given is sucdu flour mixed with water and sugar as well as taking a bath in cool water it's advised to avoid alcohol consumption during summer season as this further aggravates pitta dosha or if consumed alcohol consumption should be limited or at least diluted with water foods to be considered during summer season include boiled rice or lean meat meat which comes from the arid or desert climate meat juice or brothy soup which is not very thick rasala or churned yogurt mixed with pepper powder and sugar raga which is a syrup that has sweet sour and salty taste or even kandava which is a soft drink which has all taste except pungent taste other drinks to consider during summer season include banacam and panchasarum made fresh and kept in a mud pot or cool water kept in a mud pot along with flowers as these are cooling pleasant refreshing and hydrating hence pit to pacify things to consider during summer nights include having a dish called shashanka ghiranam or fried pastry made of corn flour or having buffalo milk mixed with sugar and cooled by the moonlight and stars during the hot summer days it's advised to enjoy the shade for example being amongst the tall trees of the forest which helps to block the hot rays of the sun spending time indoors which is decorated with bunches of flowers and grapes hanging from their creepers arranging sheets of cloth sprayed with cool scented water which helps to fan the air having leaves of fruits such as mango hanging all around the home and as the days are longer during summer one may tend to become easily exhausted therefore it's advised to nap during the summer on a soft bed prepared and decorated with flowers one should spend the remaining of the day inside the home being cooled by water fountains and scented water during the night one should consider sleeping on the terrace under the moonlight which is cooling and pleasing especially after a hot scorching day and to remain cool other considerations include staying in a relaxed state of mind anointing the body with wet sandalwood paste wearing garlands or being surrounded by flowers abstaining from sexual activity and wearing very light thin and fine clothing to remain cool and relaxed to create a cool breeze one should fan themselves while spraying water onto themselves to reduce pitta dosha one should create a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere for example being with your children who are well behaved speaking pleasantly to one another being in the company of a beautiful woman wearing bangles with the lotus flower in her hair all of this depicts and illustrates the ambiance of relaxation and that which is pleasing for the sake of reducing and preventing the aggravation of both vata and pettadosha okay guys these are basic recommendations for early summer season hope you've enjoyed and until next time be well
