Managing Chronic Fatigue with Yoga
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) requires careful, gentle practice that respects energy limits while supporting gradual recovery.
Important Principles
Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM):

Yoga Approach:
- Start extremely gentle
- Very short sessions (5-10 min max initially)
- Lots of rest between

- Increase very gradually

- Savasana (5 min)
- Total: 15 minutes maximum
Breathwork (Minimal Effort)
- Natural breathing awareness
- Extended exhales (calming)
- Avoid energizing techniques
- 5 minutes maximum
Gradual Progression (Over Months)
- Week 1-4: Restorative only, 10 min
- Week 5-8: Add gentle stretches, 15 min
- Week 9-12: Very mild movement, 20 min
- Listen to body always
What to Avoid
Never:
- Power or hot yoga
- Intense breathwork
- Long practices
- Pushing through fatigue
- Comparing to healthy yoga practice
