Yoga for Posture Correction

Poor posture affects nearly everyone in our modern, sedentary world. Yoga offers systematic practices to realign the body and build the strength for effortless upright posture.

Understanding Posture Issues

Common postural problems include:

How Yoga Corrects Posture

Builds Awareness

Yoga develops proprioception - knowing where your body is in space. You learn to feel when you're misaligned.

Strengthens Postural Muscles

Core, back extensors, and shoulder stabilizers get stronger, making good posture effortless.

Opens Tight Areas

Chest, hip flexors, and neck muscles release, allowing proper alignment.

Creates Balance

Both sides of the body develop equally, correcting asymmetries.

Key Practices

1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

Stand tall, feet hip-width. Ground through all four corners of feet. Engage thighs, tuck tailbone slightly. Stack shoulders over hips, ears over shoulders. Breathe and observe.

2. Cat-Cow Flow

On all fours, alternate between arching (cow) and rounding (cat) the spine. Move slowly with breath. Repeat 10-15 times.

3. Cobra/Sphinx Pose

Strengthen back extensors while opening chest. Hold 30 seconds to 1 minute. Build endurance gradually.

4. Wall Angels

Stand with back against wall. Slowly raise arms overhead, keeping contact with wall. Lower and repeat 10 times.

5. Thread the Needle

From all fours, thread one arm under the body, rotating spine. Hold 30 seconds each side.
