Poses

Reclined Twist (rest)

Supta Matsyendrasana (rest)

Restorative · beginner

How to

  1. Begin by lying on your back with your legs extended and arms resting by your sides.
  2. Bend your right knee and place your right foot flat on the floor, close to your left knee.
  3. Engage your core gently and, on an exhale, guide your right knee across your body to the left, allowing your torso to twist.
  4. Extend your right arm out to the right side at shoulder height, palm facing up, and keep your left hand on your right knee for support.
  5. Turn your head to the right, bringing your gaze over your right shoulder, if comfortable.
  6. Maintain regular, deep breathing, focusing on each inhale and exhale to deepen the twist and relax the body.
  7. Hold for 5-10 breaths, then gently return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side.
  8. To exit the pose, return to lying flat on your back, and take a few deep breaths to neutralize your spine.
