Caterpillar π Pose (AKA Seated Forward Fold) is a great pose to take to release tension from the hamstrings, calves, and lower back. This pose is a perfect addition to any water element class as it compresses the kidney meridian running through the stomach as well as extends and stretched the urinary bladder meridian which runs down the entire backside of the body! The key to this pose is making sure the initial bending is coming from the hips, not the lumbar spine. If you have low back pain try only bending as far as you can from the hips and maintaining a flat back (so not allowing the chest to melt toward the legs). Some discomfort is ok, but if there is still pain then refrain from this pose. To go deeper, always think about lifting the chest out and then down to get more out of the pose and keep most of the primary bending from the hips! Happy stretching! π
