How I Make Money as a Yoga Teacher (5 Easy Revenue Streams)

many yoga teachers think the only option for earning money is by teaching classes whether that is in person or online but really that is just the beginning and if you're looking to make this a business or the thing that you do full-time we've got to think outside of the box so today I'm going to share five different ways that you can make additional income or ways that you can make money Beyond those dropin classes or the trading time for dollars type of thing so basically making sometimes making passive income but just ways that you can make more money and the reason I'm sharing this is because I was there I was teaching upwards of 20 classes per week at the same time knowing there was a better way but kind of fumbling through it well it's been a few years now I finally figured it out so I'm going to share with you a few tips and strategies and uh some insights into some of these money-making ideas and just know that you don't have to do all of them and I in fact don't do all of them at once yet focus on one at a time and you'll hear a few tips along with that so let's get to it and before I do I do want to invite you next week I'm doing a website Warrior boot camp it's taboo sometimes but I'm going to make it fun make it light make it playful and hopefully this is something that interests you if it wasn't then you you can click away from the this video you do not have to watch it I do not want to pressure you into anything but it might be helpful so the first way and I think a lot of us know this way is private lessons private yoga sessions oneon-one oneon-one you can charge a premium amount more like you know upwards of1 to $200 a session if you wanted to the more specific you are on what you're doing or what you're helping with the more you can charge because the more in demand you would be if you are more specific I know that seems counterintuitive you might think I'm just going to put private Yoga online and then hope someone gets it but there's a lot of yoga teachers out there so especially with your private sessions you do want to stand out in what you teach so it might be that you teach specifically prenatal or you teach specifically for hips and hamstrings or for a specific audience um or oh I have a whole list anyone who's in my Planet yoga class in under an hour that's like a it's a free course I actually have a whole list I wrote it out here somewhere it's a whole list like 160 or 200 different topics or specificities that you could choose from as a yoga teacher I recommend going through that list I will make sure to link it in the description I can't find it right now but it's plan a yoga class in under an hour lesson one has you choosing a specific audience or paino and you can you can choose so by offering private sessions whether that's in person or online you can charge more and here's the thing with all five of these so if you want to offer private lessons or you're like it's actually I do but I don't really want to focus on it I would say to put it on your website anyway but Jack up the price because you if you don't want people booking right now what you want them to see is that it's an option but maybe you're not focused on growing it so for me I have a one-on-one business coaching hour session available on my website but I like to work in small groups and in my membership a little bit more that's where I spend my time so the price for my one-on-one business Consulting is way higher is maybe and I probably have to increase the price too because I actually don't want a ton of people booking it so I'm not putting it at this really low rate so I get a ton of booking now if your strategy was that you really wanted to focus on oneon-one maybe you would put it at a little bit more of an affordable rate that you could book out yourself and then in time you would increase the price or get new new people because demand will be higher so there's a couple different pricing strategies for you just know that um you don't need to focus on it it doesn't have to be competitive as far as price if you're like I don't want to do one-on ones right now or it's not my main focus put it on your website anyway make sure that it is it is clear that you offer this as a service it's a lot easier to discount it at half off for somebody who wants to book with you than it is to create a new offer and then put it up on the site and then try to explain it to people so making sure you have one-on ones on your site as an option whether or not you want to actually do them is is a good thing so I recommend everybody have you know Discovery call uh one-on-one yoga lesson all of that visible so people see that it's a potential option okay so that's one way let's move on to the second way this is one I've been teaching a lot lately and it's creating an OnDemand video library and or a membership monthly membership monthly is usually the way to go so an OnDemand video library is when you make videos like I make videos here it can be pre-recorded or recordings of a live live Zoom broadcast if you wanted it to um it's recordings of yoga videos and you put them into a library and I teach people how to do this I have some free resources that teach people how to do this and I also went hardcore in teaching my membership members how to do this my membership ashes Academy is a place where um where yoga teachers learn business skills online all the things okay website building all that um not to get too far into that but a monthly membership can really help you build into that sort of recurring Revenue that's dependable and also more passive income now it's not not passive in the sense where you're hands off and you don't do anything it's not like it's not like you just set it up real quick and then you never touch it again no passive meaning it's more automated it's more automated income meaning oh autom yeah kind of it's not totally passive what it means is you set it up you have to continue to maintain it but money could come in at any time so like this morning I checked on um how much I've earned or I've checked on my numbers and it was several hundred dollar and I haven't done anything so I didn't trade any time for dollars I just checked in on the payments that were received a lot of them are monthly or recurring or someone found my membership and joined it that kind of thing right so there's a lot of platforms out there that can help with a membership an ond demand video library and there's no like best one I talk a lot about offering tree because it's one that I use and recommend and I work closely with them and I found some you know really great uh ins and outs and shortcuts and tips and strategies for using offering tree and it's very affordable so that's the biggest reason that I promote it so much it's made for yoga teachers it's very affordable and there's a lot that you can do with it but I also use other systems and other softwares and programs too so uh it's not just one that's the best but it it ensures that you can get paid even when you're not actively teaching so you set this up make it available and then invite people so I won't talk too much about marketing on that but just like imagine waking up like I did this morning and then getting like PayPal notifications or seeing that someone enrolled in your membership or bought an on demand video bundle like that's such a good feeling because you know that you are changing their lives like this can change your life it's not just about you making money it's about them getting a transformation that you can provide okay number three number three uh this one I really like cuz I'm a very creative person number three is creating and selling digital products now if you are not into creating PDFs or ebooks or class plans or those kinds of things maybe this isn't one you really focus on but having at least like one digital product I recommend just like a a PDF or a checklist or something that's really highly valuable putting a price to it $5 $3 a dollar something that allows people to get out a credit card and actually pay for it because they want it that's going to give you way better leads or potential customers than if it were just a free thing that you give away yes I know I I do give a lot of free things away that's just part of my business plan also because I love making digital products and a lot of times they lead to the next thing it's not just me giving a bunch of the stuff away it's it also leads to something else but digital products as long as they solve a problem that your audience is having that uh that is highly desirable then someone will buy it this can include like an ebook or a digital download about yoga philosophy or meditation or sequencing I found a lot of luck I guess with the sequencing uh the sequencing idea so I actually my very first thing I sold online was an ebook that was the 10 steps to class sequencing something like that uh if you've seen that YouTube video from years ago it was like 10 steps to yoga sequencing and then I have a 100 page ebook that goes along with it now it doesn't have to be 100 Pages or even 10 pages it can be a lot less as long as it's something that somebody wants like it it helps them short it's a shortcut for them this can also be journals affirmation cards guided meditations scripts and don't think of it just like you're giving to people who are brand new to yoga I think a lot of new teachers and especially if you're new to online are always thinking of Their audience as being people who are brand brand new like I teach beginners and that's it and so people who don't know anything about yoga but you can also go peer-to-peer if you're a yoga teacher you can help another yoga teacher and that's okay it doesn't mean that has to be your full audience doesn't have to be your yoga class audience but you're in this industry and therefore if you figured something out and you think you can help somebody else in this same industry then make it and that's what I started doing not because my audience is Yoga teachers I'm a person who helps yoga teachers is because I saw a need in myself many years ago and I figured other people would be in the same the same place if they you know they weren't yet where I was and I could help them from my own experience so it's we're not just looking for people who are brand new to yoga you've got to think and expand away from I teach beginners because yes we can all teach beginners but that is the hardest audience to tap into when it comes to selling things because they don't know what they don't know they don't know yet that they need this ebook or this class plan or whatever it is they don't know so you might have to think uh away from absolute beginners and tap into a slightly different audience and on that note though I do teach beginners too I do and I love teaching beginners and there's nothing wrong with that at all just as far as selling they're a really hard sell so let's let's expand that and if you're like what would I create as a digital product think about what it is like one thing that your students ask you about all the time what do they ask you what are common questions that come up that might be the perfect idea for your first digital product answer a question okay let's get into number four we've got two more uh specialty workshops and programs workshops programs yeah so like class series or workshops things that are highly specified so not just you know your weekly classes oneoff classes but narrowing in just like you would with a digital product and teaching on a highly specific topic we just had Leslie who is the admin in the second admin in my yoga sequencing and teaching tips Facebook grou group she taught a well she taught a free class actually on Hands-On assists she did did an online class talking about Hands-On assists and adjustments which is actually leading to a specialty Workshop she's teaching for yoga teachers on Hands-On assists and adjustments in a more deeper level so whether it is a you know a free video that leads to this paid or if you're just promoting the paid Workshop it can be um there's an example here that says yoga for stress relief like that's okay but everyone's got stress so you can get more specific than that um arm balances and inversions if you are really great at them if that's of Interest it can be prenatal yoga Essentials just something that's going to narrow in and again that plan a yoga class in under an hour if you enroll in that free course it's free again linked below you'll see a a list of a bunch of yoga teaching topics that could work for workshops classes digital products all sorts of things and I I wish I had it somewhere else where you could just download it but it's it's a free course so go ahead and just enroll in that and go through lesson one it's it's uh like five minutes long Okay so this can be like a one-time Workshop or multi-week programs in person or online I I love a good online Workshop or online series like next week I'm doing the five day website Warrior boot camp that is a 5day workshop series series pretty much now I have't listed as free but it is something I could definitely charge for I know there's a need for it I have validated that because uh I work with yoga teachers all the time who need to enhance or improve their online presence and so that is my workshop that I'm currently teaching but for you it might be more yoga related it might be about you know spinal Mobility or like I just said all all sorts of ideas could be about anything any anything whatsoever so the question is if you could teach a workshop on any topic what would it be what would you want to teach on I think a great place to start too is also what have you learned or what would you want to teach because when you teach with passion and excitement that shows through okay so I would love to hear from uh what you would like to teach also if you want to share what it is that you would teach or maybe what you would make a digital product on put it in the comments leave a comment what would you teach pick something and then let me know okay and the last one number five the fifth way that you can make money as a yoga teacher besides classes and especially if you're looking to teach online is through affiliate marketing and brand Partnerships yeah I know this one's a little scary because it's like getting into the world of influencing but it doesn't have to be scary so so along with your workshops or your digital products what you can do is add links just like special links that give you commission if someone were to purchase the thing that you're recommending the main example I can give you is these guys this these microphones I am oh there we go Road microphones I am a affiliate for the road company because I love their microphones I am not a tech expert I am not a you know I'm not a technology influencer I'm a yoga teacher like that's primarily what I am I and also a yoga business coach but my main business is not microphones and yet because I use it I talk about it and I link them in all my descriptions I link the special link that that tracks me um in any emails anywhere I'm sharing it and any DMS any direct messages and anyone who asks about it and I think there's you know there's a lot we can do with affiliate marketing and initially getting into it we might think which I'm going to say don't do this we might think the best way to do it is to join in with like um a clothing brand right you're like I really like these clothing I would love it if they sent me some clothes don't do that don't do the clothing option I just it's not going to be the most beneficial because there there's so many clothing brands out there and usually if you are doing a brand partnership and they're saying we want to help you it's it's more I just don't like the clothing brand idea because what you're doing you're benefiting the clothing brand more than you are you cuz they're using you as free marketing and hoping that you'll make like a tiny bit of commission but clothing is not influential enough it is not like a deep desire enough to really want to promote it a whole lot now as you get bigger bigger bigger like some people are Lululemon ambassadors or Alo um ambassadors whatever great but don't use that as your first line of affiliate marketing like I'm going to promote these clothes let's get out of the fashion and into what you actually need for yoga so that means your yoga mat the props that you use uh the the things that you use to create your class your atmosphere like even this right here I would love to share these pots that I got for these plants I mean I actually got them from Costco so I don't know if they're still there but I actually really love enhancing my space with plants so you might talk about things that are unrelated to yoga and what you're wearing and what helps to enhance your space like where did I get that little Buddha statue I don't remember number but maybe if it was important or if somebody asked about it I would look it up and find a link that I could become an affiliate so how do you become an affiliate for different uh programs or Brands go to the bottom of their website scroll all the way to the bottom on the footer it will say like become an affiliate and what is sometimes important for becoming Affiliates for different brands is you need a website and if you don't have a website you at least need some kind of social media presence so a YouTube channel or an Instagram but I still think having a website is going to be your best bet for being approved for these different uh Partnerships and different opportunities um if you are not yet part of the Amazon Associates program that's also a great place to start but you also do need proof that you have a website and a business and you have some traffic coming in so it's important to have a website other things that you could become Affiliates for are things that are not tangible but will pay you a lot more because it's not tangible that means things like software like I'm an affiliate or a brand partner with offering tree offering tree is a all-in-one software Business Solution that uh yoga teachers can use to run their businesses online make their websites I talk about it a lot I'm also a affiliate for teachable which is a course platform as well as kit.com which is email marketing I'm an affiliate for for uh a bunch of other software type things and they typically pay more and also other people's courses other people's courses and programs so if you here's an example if you have gone through Yogi flight school have you gone through Yogi flight school if you haven't you should check it out but Yogi Flight School uh does launches for their course and gets a bunch of people and every so often and they also um have an affiliate program so you can promote their course let's say you got these amazing results from this program maybe it's a yoga teacher training program I don't know but I'm using Yogi flight school as an example you can say hey I want to help promote it and get people in and then you make a commission and the commission is a lot higher than any clothing retail product that you can promote okay so uh non-tangible things like courses software um I even have an affiliate program so people can promote my program programs and make a commission from that so anyways all that to say that's number five affiliate marketing and brand Partnerships it's one of my favorite topics and I could probably talk at it at length but I'm going to leave it there and call it good but all of these things let's go back um all of these things sorry I'm like looking at my notes here all of these things which you've got private yoga sessions online or in person on demand video libraries memberships digital products workshops and Specialty programs online or in person and affiliate marketing most of these would be a lot easier if you have a website so make sure looking at your website that means you want to have everything set up already links to book links to buy links you recommend you want to all set up there imagining that you have a thousand people a day coming to your website so it needs to be set up now rather than waiting waiting for the people and then setting it up don't do it as an afterthought it needs to be premeditated something you do
