Camatkarasana

Backbend · intermediate

How to

  1. Begin in Downward Facing Dog with hands shoulder-width apart and feet hip-width apart.
  2. Shift your weight onto your right hand and roll onto the outer edge of your right foot, stacking your left foot on top in a Side Plank position.
  3. Lift your hips high and step your left foot back, placing the toes on the floor behind you with the knee slightly bent.
  4. Open your chest towards the sky, letting your left arm extend overhead, palm facing down, fingers spreading wide.
  5. Engage your core and glutes to support your backbend, pressing firmly through your right hand and both feet.
  6. Keep your neck long and gaze towards your extended left fingertips or towards the sky, maintaining steady breath.
  7. To exit, engage your core and slowly bring your left hand back to the mat, returning to Downward Facing Dog.
