Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe (Standing)

Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana

Standing · intermediate

How to

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart in Mountain Pose (Tadasana), grounding through all four corners of your feet.
  2. Shift your weight onto your left foot, engaging your left thigh and lifting your kneecap to stabilize.
  3. On an inhalation, bring your right knee towards your chest, holding the right big toe with your right hand. Optionally, use a strap around the foot if needed.
  4. Extend your right leg forward, keeping the spine tall and shoulders relaxed. Ensure your standing leg remains strong and stable.
  5. Engage the core muscles to maintain balance, and keep the lifted leg active by flexing the foot.
  6. Focus your gaze (drishti) at a fixed point in front of you to help maintain balance.
  7. Hold the pose for 3-5 breaths, maintaining even and steady inhalations and exhalations.
  8. To exit, exhale as you bend the lifted leg, release the toe, and gently lower the foot back to the floor, returning to Mountain Pose.
