How to

  1. Begin in Triangle Pose (Utthita Trikonasana) with the right foot forward, right hand resting on the right shin or floor.
  2. Bend your right knee slightly and bring your right hand about 12 inches in front of your right foot, fingertips on the ground or a block, directly under the shoulder.
  3. Shift your weight into the right foot and lift your left foot off the ground, straightening the right leg while keeping a micro-bend.
  4. Engage the right quadriceps and glute muscles to stabilize the standing leg, keeping the right knee in line with the second toe.
  5. Extend your left leg straight behind you, parallel to the floor, flexing through the heel while engaging the glute medius.
  6. Open your left hip and stack it above the right, keeping the torso open and lifted, and the left arm reaching straight up.
  7. Direct your gaze (drishti) to the left hand, to the side, or down at the floor for balance.
  8. To exit, bend the right knee and gently lower the left leg back to the floor, returning to Triangle Pose.
