King Pigeon II

Rajakapotasana II

Backbend · advanced

How to

  1. Begin in a high lunge with your right foot forward and your left leg extended back, toes tucked under.
  2. Lower your left knee to the ground and untuck the toes, creating a stable base with both hips squared to the front.
  3. Slowly bend your left knee, reaching your left foot towards your glutes, ensuring your hips remain even and centered.
  4. Inhale deeply, and on an exhale, reach your right hand back to grasp the inner arch of your left foot while keeping your chest open.
  5. For deeper expression, reach your left arm overhead and back, clasping the foot with both hands, drawing the foot closer to your head.
  6. Keep your gaze (drishti) forward or upwards, maintaining length in the spine and a steady breath.
  7. To exit safely, release your left foot gently, returning both hands to the mat, tuck the toes of your left foot, and step back into Downward-Facing Dog.
