Glossary: Ardha Chandrasana

How to

  1. Begin in Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle Pose) with your right foot forward and your left foot turned slightly in.
  2. Bend your right knee and shift your weight onto your right foot. Place your right hand on the floor or a block about 12 inches in front of your right foot.
  3. Inhale as you lift your left leg parallel to the floor, keeping your left foot flexed and your toes pointing toward the side wall.
  4. Engage your core and straighten your right leg as much as possible without locking the knee.
  5. Extend your left arm toward the ceiling, stacking your shoulders vertically. Keep your left hand in line with your shoulder.
  6. Turn your gaze (drishti) to your left hand if your neck allows, or keep it forward for balance.
  7. Hold the pose for 3-5 breaths, maintaining steady and calm breathing.
  8. To exit, bend your right knee slightly, lower your left leg back to the floor, and return to Utthita Trikonasana.
