Glossary: Ardha Chandrasana

How to

  1. Begin in Warrior II pose on the right side, with your right foot forward and arms extended parallel to the floor.
  2. Shift your weight onto your right foot and right hand, placing your right hand on the floor or a block about 12 inches in front of your right foot.
  3. Straighten your right leg while lifting your left leg parallel to the floor and extending your left arm towards the ceiling.
  4. Engage your core, keeping your torso open towards the left side as you stack your shoulders and hips.
  5. Flex your left foot, pressing out through the heel, and keep the left leg strong and energized.
  6. Find a steady gaze (drishti) either at your left hand, or if balanced, look upwards.
  7. Breathe deeply, maintaining length in your spine and space between your shoulders.
  8. To exit, bend your right knee slightly, lower your left leg to the floor, and return to Warrior II.
