Parivrtta Anjaneyasana
Twist · intermediate
How to
- Begin in a high lunge with your right foot forward, knee aligned over the ankle, and left leg extended back with heel lifted.
- Bring your hands to heart center in Anjali Mudra (prayer position), pressing palms together.
- Inhale to lengthen your spine, engaging your core and keeping your hips square to the front.
- Exhale and twist your torso to the right, hooking your left elbow outside your right thigh. Press your elbow against the thigh to deepen the twist.
- Ensure your back leg is strong and active, pressing through the ball of your left foot.
- Keep your gaze (drishti) over your right shoulder or look upwards if it feels comfortable for your neck.
- Hold the pose for several breaths, maintaining steady and deep breathing.
- To exit, inhale to untwist your torso, bringing your chest back to center, and step back to Tadasana (Mountain Pose).
