Transcript

hi i'm jackie welcome to this channel where i offer short yoga classes and tutorials today i'm going to talk about revolved crescent lunge or crescent lunge twist and give you physical tips on the posture so that you can find an alignment that works for you and your unique body you can watch first and then try it at home so we start in crescent lunge and you can try taking crescent lunge with feet hip width distance apart and that can give you more stability first i'll show you an alignment that might not be the most optimal something that i'll often see some students do so that would be a rounding into the posture and then elbow coming to knee head up by shoulder and yanking the way into the posture and while that's not necessarily bad or wrong it can wreak havoc on your spine especially if you have disc or spinal pathologies or injuries so try this on instead you'll take your hands together and then elongate your spine really lengthen it and engage from here rotate your spine first towards the side as far as you can without force or pain then you can begin to fold forward or flex at your hips without rounding your spine if you feel you have to round to get your elbow on your knee then stop up a little higher and take your hand to your outer leg and your left hand or your other hand to your low back it's perfectly okay to be up here instead of down here if you are able to hinge at your hips without having to round your spine then you can take your elbow to your knee safely and bring your hands to your heart and then once again engage and you can look up if that's comfortable always check in make sure that your head is not up by your shoulder stay long through the posture so you can try all that on and see how it feels and works for your body remember that these postures are here to help us get centered and grounded and we don't have to change our bodies or force our way into these shapes or into these postures we really want to take care of ourselves and nurture our bodies through this practice of yoga thank you so much for joining me have a wonderful day you
