So that you can really build your international career as a yoga teacher. So let me see this actually coming through. Alright. There we go. Butter Today, we're speaking about how to choose your next yoga course And I'm going live to speak about this because people that are joining the International Yoga Teachers Summit, they have received an email as soon as you register. I ask you to introduce yourself and ask any questions that you may have. One of the questions that I received the most at from that email were how do I choose my next yoga course? How do I choose that because I can understand that right now you're just out of yoga teacher training or you are maybe looking at how to expand your your career choosing your next yoga course can be very challenging because there's a lot available but I want to help you gain clarity on this and that's what we're doing here together in this training live. So let's start. Let's start. So, yoga teachers are very very eager learners. And coming out of your yoga teacher training, you know that your yoga journey doesn't stop there. There's always more to learn. There's always more to discover, more knowledge to gain, and more to, to explore as well. So the yoga industry is booming and it's growing faster than ever before. And the variety options are countless. And with the growth of yoga in these past years, I think it can be really beneficial, very helpful for you to get some guidance on choosing your continuing education in a way that best suits you. Because you're not the only one, you're not the only one if you enroll in course after course and that you're always looking for new programmes and ways to upskill your expert but how do you really choose your next yoga teacher course? And in this training I'm going to take you through five questions that you can ask yourself to make that decision with intention. So that you start with the right attitude and feel completely fulfilled and confident and capable when you finish it or when you complete it. So let's have a look a little at the reason why. As a yoga teacher, you know all about intention setting. How important it is to do things with a purpose, with an aim or an objective in mind. But this also counts for the continuation of your education. And rhymes. The continuation of your education. So you may be interested in different things and you want to gain a little knowledge about all things yoga. And there's nothing wrong with that. However courses are an investment. It's an exchange of your time, of your money, and your energy. And all of those things come and go, your time, money, and energy that you spent there and you receive it. But the time that you do this in this particular moment, this present moment, you can spend it only once. So for that reason, I believe that your reason why, the reason why you're signing up for a course is something you should be really clear on. Now a common mistake that I see teachers make is the reason why they sign up for a course is to get to just get another certificate. But when doing a course for the sake of learning or for the sake of extra qualifications could eventually make you feel very overwhelmed with information. And it could make you feel as if you actually don't know what you're doing. What you're capable of. And uncomfortable and your skills and your knowledge. There's no clear path, there's no progress to trek, and you don't have a real purpose or goal that you're working towards. So having a clear objective allows you to get organised, to feel productive, and give you a motive to actually finish and apply the knowledge that you've gained in your course and apply it in your career, straight away. Yeah, so you're why it's important. But my five questions, let's go through them. So let's choose a yoga teacher course that really suits you. Grab pen and paper and write down the questions with me if you want to. And then later today or during during the week, during the summit maybe, answer them and gain clarity on your next career steps. So your next enrollment or the next course that you want to enroll in in the future. So grab pen and paper, write with me. Number one. what are your career goals and your deepest passions? So what are your career goals and your deepest passions? I touched on this a little bit already with speaking about your reason why? And though I do think that it's fun to sometimes take a course because you're interested in the topic. I do stand by the fact that investing time, money and energy in something that you want to use for your career needs to your teaching objectives. So let me repeat that. If you are spending time, money and energy in something that you want to use for your career, it needs to match your teaching objectives. Yeah? So it's important to brainstorm your career. What are your goals? What are your career goals? What do you feel most passionate about? Who do you want to serve? And what do you want to teach them? And what and knowledge do you need to upgrade To do this with confidence and feel effective at doing it? So what are your career goals? What do you feel most passionate about? Who do you want to serve? What do you want to teach them? And what skills and knowledge need an upgrade to do this feeling most confident and effective at it. And I know these are big questions and your answers might change over time. on you where you are right now and in a year from now, in another year, in another year, those things are the answers to those questions might change a little bit a bit. But if you want to gain some more clarity and you're not sure right now, have a look at our quiz, what yourself teaching voice and our blog post, how to find your voice. So there are both on our website at AI Unite. com. And answer the journal questions that come with these episodes. Other episode and a blog post. So the finding style and your teacher's voice becoming clear on what you're truly passionate about and understanding your skills and the knowledge that you need to improve to serve your students the best way provide you with a lot of clarity into what to look for in a new course. And we've got Carlos. Hey Maria's joined and Daniel. How are you all doing lovelies? How's everyone doing here? Um so yes The first thing is, first question to ask yourself is what are your career goals and your deepest passions? Now, number two, question number 2, or it's actually a thing to think about. What's the access that you have to your trainers and support? So what is the access that you have to your trainers and supports? So some of us choose a trainer, which they have known for years. Some of us a course because it covers continual education hours, it looks interesting, or simply it's the most convenient. Now in my experience, courses that have live interaction and give you access to your trainers directly, usually other ones with the highest success rate. And that's because having this access to a trainer or a teacher, a mentor, or a coach, that holds you accountable that means They're holding space for you and they listen to your needs and they answer your questions. They also give you that extra push or the motivation to complete the course with success. So courses that have life interaction and direct support with a trainer, a mentor, a coach, whatever it is they usually have a much higher success rate because it gives you a lot of accountability. So Personally, I'm enrolled in three different courses right now that I purchased. I purchased a course but I've never finished them and I never even started them. And that's why, why is that? Because the discipline, finding the discipline to go through all these materials by yourself is super challenging. Yeah, so think about that. So what I recommend as well, is that you check how much support is included. How often do you get to meet your trainer? And what are their systems for holding you accountable through the process. So do they check in with email? Do you have live interaction with them? Do you have follow-up sessions? Or do you have a community? Do you have help and support a centre or email addresses that you can write to? All of these things allow that you actually have that accountability. You can also check if it's possible to meet your teacher before you start the course. and get feel for them. So that means that you've got to get to understand the personality and you can check if you have a connection, if you feel comfortable around them, if you trust them. Um and don't feel intimidated intimidated by them. All of these things ensure that you have a healthy student teacher relationships. And that extremely increases your chance on your pores feeling very confident and capable. So that's one thing to bear in mind. What's the accessibility or your access, excuse me, your access to your trainer and the support. Yeah, things to bear in mind. Then the third thing, what is the time frame? Or what is your ideal time frame? Learning anything takes time. Yeah, that's a given. Everyone knows is, learning anything takes time. So, courses have a longer duration allow you to absorb and practice new information for a longer period of time. Especially when information is completely new to you. Or if you're learning a modality that requires practice to fully understand it and let it sink in. It's very important to not rush the process. So practice yoga off the mat. Do not rush the process. Don't push the process or that it's already happened yesterday. These things take time. So an example of this is when I did my first yoga teacher training. Back in the day. And I thought I'm just going to do a very short training. I'm going to do it and get it over and done with very quickly and I will start teaching. So my training last three and a half weeks. And in that time I was expected to remember all this new knowledge and teach with total for this. But as you know, as a yoga teacher, these courses are packed with information and focused on different disciplines. It's impossible to make so much new information, your own in such a short time. Yeah, so for that reason, I enrolled in many different other courses after that to actually practice and take it a little bit longer, take it spread over a period of to absorb, to learn, to practice, to make it my own and develop my style of voice, my teaching skills, and my knowledge. So that another disadvantage, excuse me, I was lost for a moment, another disadvantage are that after a training that's very short, you lose access to your trainers too, and that makes you feel left alone, because you lose that accountability. That also means that you probably feel unconfident, because you can't remember all the knowledge that you gained, and it's sometimes even causes you to completely give up, like I did, I didn't teach until I think it was six months after my first yoga teacher training. And that's really unfortunate because you are learning so many different things. And it's such a great opportunity to actually put everything that you're learning into practice straight away. So the bending on what you're looking to learn or improve. I usually recommend that you equip yourself with that the course that you're going to enroll on equips you with enough practicing opportunities to truly embody your new knowledge. And also think of your learning style and your past learning experiences. Be honest with yourself. How long does it really take to absorb this new information and really feel confident using it? And be patient again. Be patient with the learning process. Because fast really isn't better. Yeah? So that's point number three. What is your I time frame. Number four, do you have the opportunity to practice your new knowledge and receive feedback? So I already spoke a little bit about this in the last point. If you think of yoga Alliance or Yoga Alliance professionals or any institution that puts up frameworks for teacher trainings. Every training requires a certain amount of hours spent on specific specific teachings. So how your teacher trainer will naturally have a preference or give more importance to a specific aspect. There's nothing wrong with that. But I believe it's extremely important that you get the opportunity to practice what you learn and to receive feedback. So especially in the field of yoga you want to have the ability to practice what you teach. And to practice what you learn. Because knowledge is great but not being able to use that knowledge makes it extremely invaluable. So that's the opposite of valuable. I believe that any teaching course requires teaching practice. And that means that you get to practice what you learn. That you are allowed to make mistakes. That you receive constructive feedback. Practice again. Receive more feedback And slowly Make what you're learning your second nature. So that you're really developing your own style, your own voice, your authentic self. Whatever it is that you're learning but that you do that in a way that really comes across as yourself first and then you're not just taking on the role of a teacher. Yeah? So that's number three. Uh that's number four. That's number four. Do you have the opportunity to practice your new knowledge and receive feedback? Very very important. Last one Very last point. Have you considered doing it online? Have you considered doing your next course online? So online training is becoming more and more popular. Especially during the pandemic as we saw the amount of online courses increase with the day. There were new courses everyday. And I'm as you can imagine I'm a big fan. I'm a really big fan of online courses. And I will tell you why. So doing in person is super great. I really love that too. Because of the human to human contact, you're in a different place, in a different atmosphere. It really brings a different experience to the course. However, in-person courses are way more restricted, time bound, and less accessible. So let's have a look at some benefits of online courses. So online courses give you access to teachers that you otherwise wouldn't be able to train with. Because involves travelling or it takes place in a certain time frame that doesn't always that doesn't always match your schedule Right? So it allows you to teach to take training or to take courses with people that otherwise wouldn't be accessible to you. Now with most online courses as well you get access to recordings that you can watch in your own time. And that means that if you can't make it or if 1 day your energy is low or your concentration is poorly or if you don't fully understand you can go back to the material and enjoy every detail of the course or even post the video come back to it later, revise. All of this really speaks to the fact that fast isn't better and that we need a lot of repetition and sometimes it's just best to do things in our own time to not force our learning journey, our learning process. So it gives you the opportunity to fully understand, embody, and imply your new knowledge in real life. Yeah? So that's another benefit. Another benefit of online courses it is that in group programmes for example group programmes introduce you to an international community. Especially if your goal is to teach while travelling or start an online career. Host retreats or any other type of international perspective. Your course introduces you to people from all different types of backgrounds. Living in different places. Which ultimately helps you to fast and easily expand your network for future job opportunities and collaborations. It's a really great benefit to expand your network, to grow your community. Another benefit and I think that's the last one I can think of for now. But another benefit is online courses also give you a lot more one on one support. Because if you're going to an in-person course, in a studio, or in a retreat centre, wherever it is, there are 20 other teachers or 20 other people on this course, even more people. And they're all doing it at the same time. Your teacher can only spend their energy, their time, their eye, and their, their, the time with you there, divide it over the classroom. But online, your teachers are way more approachable. You can write to them you send them an email or a DM which means that they can also be way more personal with you than than they would be in a classroom or a studio setting. Right? So that's another really great benefit. The support that you have from your teacher is more personal and more one on one. So really focused on you, your needs, your questions, whatever you need from them. Yeah so these are some things to think about when you choose your next yoga teaching course or any really. So let me go through a quick summary. First of all think of your reason why and remember that I believe that time, money and your let me think, what was it again? How you want to, how are you doing? Then we've got and Danny. Danielle, Dan Adele, Dan Adele I think it is. How are you all doing lovelies? Um remember that I believe that your time, your money and energy are things that you can only spend once And if you want to use this for your career then it's key that you do this with intention and remember that you do this to actually to invest in your professional development. So that's number one. And then I asked you five questions to think about when you want to choose your next course. So for those that are joining us later, watch the replay so you can listen to all the things that I spoke about earlier. But the five questions are, what are your rare goals and your deepest passions? What is the access to your trainers and support and remember that more access means more accountability? Then what's your ideal time frame? Remember fast isn't better. We want to take our time to absorb and to practice. To really make it our second nature. And then we have do you have the opportunity to practice your new knowledge and receive feedback? Because this is the only way to develop. We need to practice. We need this repetition. Receive people to understand what to improve and from there actually embody and develop our authentic self. And then have you considered doing it online? Have you considered doing it online? And I gave you four or five benefits of online courses. To summarize is that you have access to different teachers that you otherwise wouldn't be able to train with. That you have access to recordings that you can revise and watch when the best suits you. that you will be introduced to an international community. You can expand your network. And there's a lot more one on one support. Because you have direct private access to your trainer as well. So this is a very quick summary. For those that are watching, do you have any questions? Any questions about the topics of today. The topic of today. How to choose your own or your next international course. Hi Tikara. How doing Nice to see you. Let me see. I'm going to reload the video. on Facebook and see we've got comments there. Any questions Darling friends. Gonna give you a moment to write them down.
