How to DJ: What Equipment Do You Need? (Beginner Tutorial)

hey guys Nick from DJ city here welcome to our first episode of our three-part series on how to DJ in this episode we're going to be looking at what kind of gear and equipment you're going to need to look at getting in order to get started first off DJ controllers there are plenty of options on the market at the moment some good options are the DDJ 400 and the SB 3 by pioneer the Kontrol s2 by Native Instruments and the real loop bait mix - are all great options I've got here the DDJ SB 3 with me gives you a great layout that isn't too daunting nice and simple gives you everything you need to get started it's layout has got everything you need to learn the fundamentals of building next up we've got DJ software we've got four main apps record box cerrado Virtual DJ and tractor if you've got a preference on your software you might want to keep this in mind when looking at what kind of controller you want to buy as most controllers will come with a license for the software of the company for example record box is going to come with a pioneer product tractor will come with Native Instruments products and cerrado it does a bit of mixture some pioneer products use them and really products as well all of these products will have a license in the box or on the product itself on the sp3 you can find that on the little tag next up if you're using a controller you're gonna need a laptop or a computer of some form there's no hard and fast but all about this any Windows or Mac computer is going to be compatible with pretty much any controller off about it most computers and laptops will run your software just fine investing a little bit more in something a bit more powerful is always going to be beneficial to you to prove yourself later on for starting out and learning in the bedroom a good set of studio monitors will go a long way later on when you're DJing for gigs a good set of PA speakers are gonna be better for live events here we've got the AV fusions they are a great entry-level option also keep your eyes out for the kauke rockets the JBL lsi range and the yamaha HS range next up headphones any headphones will work for this but DJ headphones specifically are recommended they do provide you with better and more accurate low-end DJing and all canceled external noise better the ìiî tma-20 great pick personal favorite of mine would be the sennheiser hd25 s and they also have a light version of those if you're on a budget lastly he can't DJ without any music you may already have some mp3s as a collection already so they can be imported in your software straight away you will want to expand on this collection so places like iTunes and Beatport are great places to buy your music there are also DJ pools online such as digital DJ pool calm where you can pay a certain fee per month and have access to unlimited downloads for mp3s for you to DJ with these usually have intros and outros which make it easy to transition between tracks smoothly so that pretty much covers it for all the gear you'll need to get started stay tuned for episode 2 where we show you how to set it all up if you liked the video make sure you hit the like button and to see more
