Our Window of Tolerance is our optimal zone of arousal, where we are able to cope and thrive in everyday life. When we are living within our Window of Tolerance, we remain calm and composed when stressful things happen. When we are outside of it, we can go one of two ways. We either feel overwhelmed and go into what is known as "hyper arousal" or we can shut down and go into what is known as "hypo-arousal". Learning the signs of when we are either hyperaroused or hypoaroused can help us to live within our Window of Tolerance. Living within our Window of Tolerance can help us to feel calm, feel safe, and increase healthy functioning in life.
