hi my name is Kelly cter and I'm going to discuss what to expect at a first yoga class whenever any of us start something new the feeling of anticipation is normal and that's because the adventure of doing something new has so many unknowns and it requires a fearless and a positive risk on your part I'm going to share a few things you can expect at your first yoga class that just may help put you at ease wear comfortable clothing preferably stretchy workout pants and shirts avoid using any perfume or lotions prior to class it's a scent-free Zone bring water to stay hydrated a yoga mat will be required so most Studios rent them but I recommend bringing your own yoga is a quiet calming distressing experience so as soon as you walk into the lobby of the yoga studio begin to quiet your voice expect to hear music often yoga teachers play music which can vary between mainstream musicians to calming yoga music yoga is practiced with bare feet so don't forget to take off your shoes place your mat near the middle of the room this way you can see what's going on in front of you and behind you make sure you grab two yoga blocks and a yoga belt these props will come in handy during class make sure to let your teacher know that this is your very first yoga class you might also hear people breathing loudly like Darth Vader this is the traditional yoga breathing called uay breath it's normal many teachers begin and end the yoga class with a chant most commonly the chant of own you don't have to chant you can always just sit back and listen you might hear words that sound long and complicated the teacher is just using traditional Sanskrit words to cue the poses and the last pose you will do is shavasana final relaxation stay and enjoy and don't leave class once shavasana has begun the teacher will let you know when it's time to come out of the pose at the end of the class the teacher will say namaste and that means the light in the love in me honors the light in the loveing you once class is over return your props thank the teacher drink lots of water and enjoy the peacefulness from your practice namaste
