Poses

Gate Pose (balance emphasis)

Parighasana (bal)

Balance · beginner

How to

  1. Begin in a kneeling position with the knees hip-width apart, shoulders stacked over the hips.
  2. Extend the right leg out to the side, keeping the foot flat on the ground and in line with the left knee.
  3. Inhale deeply, lengthening the spine, and raise the arms parallel to the ground, palms facing down.
  4. Exhale and lean the torso towards the right leg, placing the right hand on the shin or ankle. Keep the left arm extended overhead with the palm facing down.
  5. Engage the core, pressing the hips forward gently, and rotate the chest upward slightly to open the heart.
  6. Maintain a steady gaze (drishti) towards the left thumb or forward, ensuring the neck is comfortable.
  7. Breathe deeply and evenly, holding the pose for 3-5 breaths, focusing on elongating the side body with each inhalation.
  8. To exit, inhale and return the torso upright, then bring the right leg back to kneeling. Repeat on the opposite side.
