if you practice yoga and you have your very own yoga mat chances are at some point you're gonna have to clean this yoga mat because you might notice it getting dirty or you might notice some nasty smells so in this video i'd like to share my four top recipes in order to make your own diy yoga mat cleaner using some very basic products that you probably have somewhere in your house so the first thing is i'm going to show you how to make it with some soap with some vinegar with witch hazel and with baking soda so depending on what you have in your house and also what type of yoga mat you have let's have a look at the recipes for your yoga mat cleaners so the first method is to clean your yoga mat with soap and water so you want to fill up your bottle with water and add about one teaspoon of soap now soap is great because it removes dirt and grime and also helps get rid of some germs now here's something interesting life form be matte and sugar matte all recommend cleaning your yoga mat with soap and water however manduka and jade both advise not to use soap to clean your yoga mat the second method is with vinegar so we want about four parts of water and one part of vinegar so vinegar cleans and even has disinfectant properties its main ingredient helps break down dirt and is strong enough to kill some household pathogens no wonder it's such a common diy cleaner and of course if you want you can add essential oils i use tea tree and tea tree is considered to have antiviral properties as well as antifungal and antiseptic properties so bmat recommends using water and vinegar to clean your yoga mat however manduka and jade both advise you not to use vinegar the third method is with witch hazel so again we want approximately four parts water and one part witch hazel now witch hazel has anti-inflammatory properties and is commonly used in skin care as a cleanser and toner now this can be used on all yoga mats i didn't find any yoga mat manufacturer recommending you to not use witch hazel on your yoga mat and last but not least baking soda so baking soda is the most commonly used homemade cleaner plus it's a deodorizer as it's able to neutralize the acids that cause bad smells so if you have a smelly yoga mat you can use this recipe and here's the thing when i contacted lifeform about cleaning yoga mats they recommended using baking soda to deep clean your yoga mat and of course if you want to be a bit fancy you can get these lovely labels and write out your yoga mat cleaner and it'll look even prettier let me know in the comments below how you get on with these diy yoga mat cleaning recipes but here's the thing if you want to go with the more store-bought option i have some cleaning sprays from maduka and from jade and each of for particular types of yoga mats and for particular types of uses so if you'd like more information on these and also more information how to actually clean your yoga mat and help protect it for you know the long term then check out this video here and i'll see you in next week's video bye
