Transcript

namaste everyone in today's video we're going to focus on muni patanjali's yog sutra 2.22 in this particular sutra muni patanjali is helping us to understand what happens to prakriti after a particular person has attained cavalia or understood their purusha completely so let's take a good look at this sutra and start breaking it up word by word to understand it even better the sutra itself goes all right so let's hear that one more time quite a long suster there you can pause the video and just hear the susta and then we'll start breaking it up so the sutra goes up all right so that is the sutra now let's start understanding it word by word so we can understand what it's trying to tell us the first word over here is kritartha means a purpose that has been obtained or achieved so artha means a purpose krita means activity or activated so a purpose that has been worked upon and therefore that compound word is kritartham then we come to the next word which is basically prati so prati is also commonly used hindi word which means four or two words and then we come to the next one which is nashter nashter is again a very common hindi word it refers to something being destroyed or completely annihilated and then the next thing is api api as we've seen even in previous sutras means yet and the next word is so ernest means not destroyed not harmed and then the next word is it's or it's uh belonging to a particular word that we're talking about annier is others or other things and sadhara is something that is sadharan which means quite universal quite easily available something that is commonly shared by a lot of people so these are the meanings of all the words and now let's look at what is the sutra exactly trying to say so the sutra is trying to communicate that once a yogi has attained kevaly or has moved towards it for such a yogi he or she might be established in the purusha tatwa might be experiencing the pure or pristine witness principle and in that case they're very close to having completely dissolved prakriti or not being affected by the prakritic elements at all like the chitta the mind any of the evolutions of prakriti so this is a very unique position to be in it's even hard to describe put it into words because we're we're composed of prakriti and purusha so it's very difficult to understand what it would feel like to be in a state where we are completely identified with the purusha principle and not with the prakrati so what the suthra are saying that in such a state the prakrti might have dissolved completely for the purusha for that particular person but it is not dissolved universally for everybody else so it goes to show that your individual sadhana your individual practice might result in you reaching the cavalier stage or the higher stages of yoga but that does not mean that prakriti or nature as a whole gets destroyed because as we know purusha prakriti are eternal elements you cannot destroy them so in that case what is essentially happening is you are just becoming more and more aware of your purusha the prakrti in you is decreasing decreasing coming into a moola prakriti and finally a lingar state but it's not disappearing for everybody else right for example if there's somebody who's a yogi and has been practicing for a very long time and they have been able to attain cavalier in their experience prakriti might dissolve but in my experience or your experience we can still feel prakriti we are still being given the opportunity to experience prakriti and to experience the world as it is and then go ahead in our own journey of sadhana so this is a very important point to realize that somebody else's practice or sadhana might change the way they feel or understand purusha prakriti but we have to do our own work in order to have a similar experience or to go down that path and this is also very important because a lot of times we get asked whether purusha and prakriti are two separate elements whether they how they function in each person and again the most common question here is are there many different purushas or is it just one purusha and i think what the sutra is trying to indicate is that each of us have different types of purushas within us of the same essence and quality but still numerically different and that's why our experience of prakriti or that say yoga purusha and prakriti is different at each individual level so this is what the sutra is trying to say um i think it's quite an excellent concept takes a little bit of time to grasp completely but once you understand it i think it opens your mind it really helps you to see how purusha and prakriti are structured and it really helps you to see how influenced sankhya and yoga are by one another and this deep correlation between both the philosophies that we keep seeing so that's what the sutra is all about sutra 2.22 i hope it's helped you to understand the sutra a bit better and if you have please do share this video with your friends and family so they can understand it as well do leave some comments some likes if you enjoyed the video and we look forward to
