A bottle of water. An absorbent towel. A yoga mat. And thee. These simple items, when combined with a hot yoga class, can be the catalyst for a body/mind revolution. Our hot yoga is based on the traditional 26-pose series practiced in a heated room. The heat enhances flexibility and provides deep cleansing benefits.
[Music] You will probably leave feeling euphoric and absolutely love it even if you're tired. Um you will know why this yoga works so well and why it's so well attended. Hot yoga is hot. Hot yoga uh is taught in a hot room, 105 degrees approximately and um 30 to 50% humidity. So it's a steamy environment. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate to hydrate. Don't come after a night of of drinking alcohol. Also, bring a big thing of water. I've had that happen and that's never a good combination. She needs to hydrate during class and specifically after class. Hot yoga series is 26 postures and they're repeated twice generally and it's a standing series and then you move to the floor and there's some poses on the belly and then there's a kneeling series and it begins and ends with a breathing exercise. We rest after every po after every posture either standing or laying to absorb the benefits of what we just did. So if at any time you need to rest make that rest a little bit longer it's totally okay. Um, as I like to tell my students, use the body you brought today. It is a a fairly assertive physical practice. Um, so we do 26 postures. We do each of them twice. We do it in an hour and a half in a hot room. So, you have to imagine that it would be fairly assertive to get all that done. Not every time in life you get a second shot. So, you do in hot yoga. Some of the main benefits of doing the hot yoga series are detoxification. Not only at the peripheral level, sweating at the skin, cleansing the skin, but working through the internal organs as well. This series is designed to work from bones to skin and from skin to bones. So, every muscle group is affected and every set of bone groups are affected. Yoga has so many benefits. Uh not only is it good for the muscles as the heat really helps to promote elasticity of the muscles but also the lymphatic system of the body is given an awesome juicing. So you get such a wonderful immune system from practicing over time. Um your immunity everything just starts to get better. Circulatory system is refreshed in the series. Skeletal system supported. It's just an awesome marriage of all the systems of the body. It's a very safe style of movement. The postures themselves are not terribly complicated. It's designed for all levels of yoga practitioners. So, you don't need to be strong or flexible when you get here. Um, it it in a very um very purposeful way helps to build strength and promote flexibility as your practice continues. So, this is a great way to detoxify. Um, some of the other benefits is you really are so conscious of your body that I think you get in more in tune so you don't over push yourself or over aggravate. Um, it's great if you have an injury that you can kind of focus on that and say, "Okay, I'm really going to work on on the healing process." Um, since you work your entire body, you really can get some benefits, muscle tone, definition, obviously as well. This yoga is great for the people who are very busy, the type A personalities, because it allows and affords them not only the physical workout, but also the inside track on how to start to relax, how to get the mind and the body to calm down so that they're not always at maximum, but so that they have a little chance to soften around the edges. And that's where the months, years, decades come to play is that suddenly you start to chisel away all of the hard edges and you emerge as this beautiful sculpture afterwards. I enjoy teaching this class. I cannot tell you it's given me so much benefit over the years. Having had a herniated disc in 2001 and surviving cancer in 1996, it has just led me to appreciate so much being healthy and living a healthy lifestyle and feeling healthy. So, I love teaching it and being able to give that back to everybody else that comes into the class so that you can move through your daily life with just ease and elegance and a grace and be conscious and aware of the grateful nature of living a healthy life painfree without medicine too. That that's another huge benefit. This practice promotes a functional fitness um to improve the quality of your life on a day-to-day basis. It isn't about athleticism or you know contortion. The poses themselves are not that that difficult or complicated. Uh we have a variety of levels in one room. Um, so I think what we're talking about is is improving the overall health of the body. Um, not just fixing certain parts or, you know, losing weight. Um, it's a much more comprehensive program uh that that looks at the body as as a as a whole, the person as a whole. It really helps you deal with whatever life throws at you. Um, I firmly believe if I didn't have hot yoga to practice with, I would be in a little ball in a corner somewhere some days. Okay, maybe that's a little TMI, but but I think it's just the attitude that you get by having worked so hard and being so focused because it really is a moving meditation. Um, and so you walk out and you're just very present, um, very grateful and feel amazing. Don't let the heat scare people away from trying this. And better yet, bring a friend. Anything's fun and better with a friend. And give it a shot. [Music]
