Wide-Legged Forward Fold

Prasarita Padottanasana

Forward fold · beginner

How to

  1. Begin standing in Tadasana (Mountain Pose) with feet together and arms by your sides.
  2. Step your feet wide apart, approximately 3 to 4 feet, ensuring your feet are parallel to each other. Engage your quadriceps to lift the kneecaps.
  3. Inhale deeply, lengthen your spine, and place your hands on your hips. Roll your shoulders back and down to open your chest.
  4. Exhale and hinge forward at the hips, keeping your spine long and chest open. Engage your core muscles to support the lower back.
  5. Place your hands on the floor directly beneath your shoulders or on blocks, maintaining shoulder-width distance. Keep your arms straight but not locked.
  6. Let your head hang heavy and gaze softly at the space between your legs, allowing the neck to relax.
  7. Stay in the pose for 5-10 breaths, maintaining a steady and calm breath throughout.
  8. To exit, engage your core, press through your feet, and with an inhale, lift your torso back to standing. Step your feet back together into Tadasana.
