Half Frog

Ardha Bhekasana

Hip opener · intermediate

Glossary: Ardha Bhekasana

How to

  1. Begin by lying face down on your mat with your legs extended and arms resting alongside your body.
  2. Place your right forearm parallel to the top of your mat, keeping your elbow under your shoulder, and bend your left knee, bringing your left heel toward your left buttock.
  3. Reach back with your left hand and clasp the inner edge of your left foot, gently drawing it closer to your body. If possible, rotate your fingers to point in the same direction as your toes.
  4. Ensure your chest remains square to the mat and your hips are grounded. Press your forearm into the mat to lift your chest slightly.
  5. Engage your core muscles and keep your gaze forward or slightly down to maintain a neutral neck position.
  6. Focus on your breath, inhaling deeply to expand your chest and exhaling slowly to relax into the stretch.
  7. Hold the pose for 5-10 breaths, then gently release your foot and extend your leg back to the mat.
  8. Repeat on the other side, and once completed, relax in a prone position or transition into Child's Pose to release the back.
