Transcript

in this video we will cover what to wear to your first Jiu Jitsu classes before you acquire either a jiu jitsu gi or proper nogi Jiu Jitsu gear I will provide some simple guidelines that you can use to choose what to wear when you get on the mats for the first time so let's start with the top half for your top half for your first Jiu Jitsu class I would choose these options given roughly in order of preference you can wear a rash guard of any kind a compression shirt a tight fitting t-shirt or just your normal t-shirt which can be tucked into your shorts if it's of a baggier fit generally speaking we are looking for a top that fits as snugly as possible to stay out of the way when we're training this also has the important benefit of making it far less likely to catch fingers toes hands or feet in the fabric you should also avoid any tops with pockets for similar reasons it's pretty important to avoid anything that has buttons or any other plastic or metal Parts because they can damage both the mats and yourself and your training Partners now let's go over the bottom half for your bottom half in your first Jiu Jitsu class I would choose to wear these options given roughly in order of preference leggings or spats athletic pants that fit snugly athletic shorts and normal sweatpants for our bottoms we prefer them to stay in place and out of the way something that fits snugly and still allows you to move freely is the best option if you have drawstrings on your pants then tie them up tightly and if possible tuck it into your waistband if you can avoid wearing pants or shorts that have pockets it's a pretty good idea because it reduces the chances of fingers toes feet and hands getting caught in the fabric it's also important to avoid having buttons or any other metal or plastic parts if at all possible because these can damage the mats and also scratch yourself and your training Partners keep in mind that these are all just options that you can do wearing some kind of normal shirt alongside shorts or sweatpants will be just fine if this is just a trial class or a set of trial classes then you have to keep in mind that we're just really trying to see if we're interested in doing Jiu Jitsu at all so don't feel like you need to go out and buy special clothing just to go to these trial classes just check out the class and have fun learning a few things about Jiu Jitsu if you want to know about what the Norms are for what you would wear under a jiu jitsu gi I actually did a video on it and you can check it out over here thanks for watching
