The name Ashwagandha translates to “smell of the horse” which refers to the fact that fresh Ashwagandha root smells of horse! However, this meaning also relates to the strength, vitality and vigor of the animal, all qualities which Ashwagandha itself imbibes. The qualities of Ashwagandha are: heavy and unctuous. Ashwagandha is sweet, astringent and bitter in taste. Being heating and having a sweet post-digestive effect, Ashwagandha is beneficial in helping to manage certain kapha & vata conditions. Ashwagandhā is helpful in improving balya; balya being that which improves strength & immunity. Research reveals protective mechanisms of Ashwagandha which suggests it helps reduce the risk of contracting SARS-Corona virus 2 infection. Ashwagandha contains a chemical called Withanone and research suggests that Withanone helps to block the entry of the Corona Virus from entering into the host cell.
