the plank pose in yoga known as phalakasana is a foundational strength building pose it is often used in yoga sequences to engage the core arms and legs here's a breakdown of how to do the plank pose begin on your hands and knees ensuring your wrists are directly under your shoulders and your knees are under your hips straighten your legs by tucking your toes under and lifting your knees off the ground your body should form a straight line from the top of your head to your heels tighten your abdominal muscles and maintain a neutral spine avoid letting your hips sag or rise too high your shoulders should be over your wrists and your legs should remain active pressing through the heels hold the position keep your body in a straight line engaging your entire body particularly your core thighs and arms breathe steadily holding the pose for as long as it's comfortable ideally 30 seconds to a minute to start
