hi there my name is zap and I'm a yoga teacher in this video I'm going to talk with you about yoga props so you might be new to yoga and you don't know what to get or what each prop is good for for example this yoga bolster I'm going to share with you what you can do with each prop what they're good for and then you can decide if you need to get one or not let's get started all right so the first one is of course the yoga mat so for the yoga mat it is very important that you have a good grip there are so many yoga mats out there which are very very slippery so you can always test it by coming into a downward facing dog and then when you move your hands forward you try to press your hands down if you like Sliding Away you know this doesn't have a good grip so of course you also need to really use your hands to push down but you can already feel if a mat has a good grip or not also you might want to consider a travel mat they are usually a little bit thinner so this one is quite thick I keep this one at home it's quite a heavy yoga mat if you want to know more about yoga mats check out my yoga mat review the next yoga props are knee mat pads they are so useful so I'm usually going to my clients having a very thin yoga mat and I've got no cushioning so this yoga mat is quite thick as you can see so I don't really need support for my knees but if you feel like it's uncomfortable for your knees then you can get these beautiful knee mat pads so I'm going to show you what you can do with this you place your knee just in the center of this knee mat pet so if you're going into low lunge position Tada it's so nice for your knee or let's say you want to go into camel pose of course you need two of these if you don't have two of those then you can get this type of knee mat pad they are so so soft I love practicing on these and next prop are the yoga straps so if you for example go into a forward fold you can't reach your feet quite yet then you can use it like this you know and by time getting a bit more down or for example if let's say you're going into a lunge position and you want to add something for your arms so you can't quite bring your hands together then you can use the yoga strap here for so you grab the strap from each end and try to bring your hands closer together that's another way you can use a strap or one of my favorites is the the hamstring stretch lying on your back and then putting the strap around your foot that is so good and yeah the yoga strap just adds a little bit more juice into this okay next prop our yoga blocks I've got so many of those so this one is quite pretty very heavy this one is made of c and then I've got these funny foam yoga blocks uh my little one has been a bit creative on these and this one but I would not recommend the foamy ones they're just very wobbly so if you want to use the yoga blocks for example I'm just going to show what my clients love when you do a shoulder bridge and then placing the yoga block underneath you for example it's quite a relaxing restorative way obviously you don't have to go that high up you can also just go like this or if you want to practice viparita karani there's so many uh options they're so useful or for example trasa and other standing postures where you can place the yoga block just next to your foot so if you can't reach your yoga mat or your ankle you can just place your hand on the yoga block t or using it for any other postures you know there so many ways you can use the yoga blocks also you can use two yoga blocks at the same time for example in forward fold if you can't reach the floor you can just have your hands resting on it so there are so many ways you can really make use of these yoga blocks okay the next one is the yoga bolster obviously uh it's quite a big prop to get so you need to really think about if you really have to get it but it's nice and I also love sometimes to get some nice design so it's um it's a nice decoration at home if you want to keep it so you can do postures like this more like restorative Yin Yoga asanas um you can for example in your shavasana place it underneath your knees that's an option so if you wo lie down have it underneath your knees that is really really relaxing or you can I'm going to show you one more posture just to give you an idea or you can just place it behind you slowly lying down so nice heart opener here so you see there are so many ways to use a yoga bolster
