hi I'm Cara Lia from the yoga lunchbox and I'm talking today about my book forty days of yoga the question in particular that I'll be looking at is how long does my home yoga practice have to be this is a huge question and I think for many people who read the book this is one of the biggest breakthrough moments see often we had this idea that a home yoga practice needs to be this incredible perfect 90 minute asana or posture practice done at 5:30 a.m. in the morning and preferably in a room overlooking the ocean so we have this idea of perfection like it has to be there or it just doesn't count I suggest something different I suggest that your home yoga practice only needs to be a minimum seven minutes long that's right seven minutes do you want to know why of course you do when you commit to getting on your mat for just seven minutes a day it sounds completely doable you're like hell yeah I can do that I can do super minutes I mean that's about as long as your average ad break if you're still watching television seven minutes you know it's when you go into the kitchen and you put the toaster and you can almost get a Sun Salutation in there so when you say seven minutes the mind goes like yeah that's no big deal I can go along with it so you get on your yoga mat and you do your seven minutes what do you think happens what happens when you get on your mat it's hard to get off you do seven minutes of yoga and you want to do more and what I discovered is that when I gave people permission to only do seven minutes a day and verbally they would do at least an average of 20 minutes so this is a sneaky way of getting around your minds resistance so how long does your home yoga practice need to be it only needs to be super minutes that's enough if you can get on your mat every single day and build a consistent habit of doing yoga for seven minutes I guarantee you'll end up doing longer anyway so don't make it a big deal don't think you've got to do 90 minutes you have it count or sixty minutes or 45 minutes or even 20 minutes obviously you will get more results would be the results if you're doing 20 minutes or 45 minutes but what you're looking to do here with a home yoga practice and foremost is to embed a daily habit once you've got that foundation of habit and beat it into your life then you grow the habit right so start small start with a small one just do seven minutes a day and I guarantee out of that your home yoga practice will grow I'm Carolyn from the yoga lunchbox this is 40 days of yoga breaking down the barriers to home yoga practice it takes you through an awesome psychological process guaranteed to get you on your Mac every day go practice some yoga
